So even though they already have a closed in coop? I guess my question is that they have a fairly big run, but from what I understand I should make that smaller so they can't get onto the roof? Lordy :-) They are going to HATE ME. :-D I"ll keep everyone posted!!
My chickens are nuts. Through rain, ice cold temps and howling winds, the **** things insist on sleeping on TOP of the house. We have adjusted the roosts to try and make them happy, but to no avail. I usually end up, if the weather is terrible, having to take them off the top of the house at...
That's what I thought... But there literally is NO place that they could be stashing eggs. It's so strange that they just stopped cold turkey when they've only been laying now for about 5 months!!
To be honest... I'm fine with them going without eggs... it just sucks to be spending a ton of money on feed AND have to buy eggs. *grumble*
Their henhouse is all vented up at the roof, so has natural light that comes in when it is daylight outside... so I really think they just like being up...
So this is the first year that almost ALL of our 5 have stopped laying and we live in NorCal where it's not that cold yet, but obviously the days are getting very short.
I had read that I should use a lamp for both heating and for continued egg production but the challenge is that my idiot...
So just got three new "pullets" about 8 weeks ago and now one of my 6 girls is now making some very un-ladylike noises in the morning. I'm thinking that perhaps this one isn't really a hen? Her tail feathers look a little strange... gorgeous, but strange. And sorry for the terrible picture...
