I've decided to do the same with my little Call duckling, I'm giving it soaked crumb but aside from that I think I will let nature take it's course ... although I will have to sadly cull it if it seems to be drawing out the inevitable :(

I've soaked the crumb to make a kind of porridge and it seems to like that so I'll see what progress it makes from now on. It is a little fighter so I think it's going to be OK!

Call Duck with Cleft Bill - How can I help it eat??

Thanks for that. It seems yoghurt may be worth a try, or moistening the crumb. I'll have a go with that as it seems keen to eat.

Diary of a Crossbeak: Support for Special Needs Chickens and their Keepers

I have a day old Call duck chick - it has a very slight cross beak and cleft - it seems to be struggling to eat the chick crumbs (maybe they are too big?!) I don't want to tube feed/syringe it at the moment as it is trying to eat, what can I give it to make it easier? Maybe yoghurt?? Any...

Call Duck with Cleft Bill - How can I help it eat??

Hi everyone! I have a day old Call Duckling that has a cleft bill (which is also slightly out of alignment) . Its looking healthy otherwise and is drinking. It has even attempted eating the chick crumb but doesn't seem to quite manage getting it down... Any suggestions on how to make it...

Call Duck Egg wont hatch! Day 29 - moving and tapping but still no pip

There was another live one but also deformed. Some of the others were fully developed but dead in shell. I'm thinking maybe the breeder I got the eggs from possibly didn't have the best or healthiest parent stock, not sure why else this would happen. The eggs from my own Bali ducks were in...

Call Duck Egg wont hatch! Day 29 - moving and tapping but still no pip

Well it turns out the duckling was deformed so I guess that's why it wasn't hatching. Very Sad :(

Call Duck Egg wont hatch! Day 29 - moving and tapping but still no pip

Thanks for all the advice! I am now at the stage of having opened the end of the egg, there seem to still be some blood vessels in the membrane. I am dampening the membrane every few hours so I can monitor their progress and see if they are being absorbed - it seems to be a slow process! I don't...

Call Duck Egg wont hatch! Day 29 - moving and tapping but still no pip

Well I just had a go - it had pipped internally but that was all. As soon as I made a small hole in the air sac end of the egg it pushed its beak out and started chirping. I have now put it back in the incubator on a damp paper towel and will see if it does anything over the next few hours (...

Call Duck Egg wont hatch! Day 29 - moving and tapping but still no pip

Hi all I have 12 Call duck eggs in the incubator. One pipped on Monday then made no further progress... I helped it out of the shell yesterday morning but it seemed to still be attached to the shell. It was very weak and didn't make it. I have tried floating the other eggs in warm water - I've...
