If you already have chickens, she probably wouldn't even notice the addition of a few ducks
They have the markings of a Rouen but I don't know what they will look like as adults.
My Rouen has hatched 13 babies. I plan to keep 2 so the rest need to go to a good home. These are pet ducks - not to be eaten. Also, you'd have to agree to provide a water source for swimming. A simple kiddie pool would be fine. They would have to be picked up (no shipping). I live near...
Wow! Thanks for all the responses. Great information. If I get some, I didn't want to clip their wings. I want them to be able to get away from my large male ducks if they try to breed them. I am still concerned about them flying into the dog's lot and getting eaten. That's what happened to...
I put fake eggs in my ducks' nests. I do it to get them to lay in the same place each day. They don't like it when I take their eggs and will find a new place to lay if I don't keep a few fake eggs in the nest. It hasn't caused them to become broody.
My ducks free range during the day and put themselves up in the barn at night. I built this duck house for them with the intent of locking them up at night but since they hangout in the barn with the donkeys, I don't have to. The donkeys keep them safe. I have their feeder in the duck house but...
Has anyone kept large breed ducks suck as Cayugas or Rouens with call ducks or BEI's? I was thinking of getting some BEI's next spring but was worried that my larger ducks might injur them if they tried to breed them.
I just fertilized the yard today and didn't even think about the ducks eating the fertilizer. Oh well. I'm not too concerned about them eating it. Ferilizer smells and tastes terrible (don't ask how I know that).
