I have 6 Khaki Campbells, and am getting about 5 eggs a day, sometimes 6. My flock has been decimated recently by predators... coyote or fox, I think. My poor ducks got traumatized, and it was all my fault. They put themselves in their coop every night, and all I have to do is go out and take up the ramp and latch the duck door. Well, one night recently, I went out later than usual, and it was very dark, and I closed their door as usual, totally forgetting that earlier in the day I had been cleaning out the coop, and the front door was still open. So I locked their little door and left the big "man door" open. Two got eaten that night. The next night, they refused to come up from the pond and go to sleep in their coop; I can't really blame them, but that left them vulnerable, and two more were missing in the morning. For a few more nights, sometimes they would come up and sometimes they wouldn't, and I ended up losing 2 more.
They are finally calmed down and sleeping in the coop regularly again, and laying regularly. I have 6 of my Khakis left, and there are 3 Cayugas and 2 Rouens and 1 Runner who should all start laying in the next month. I don't expect them (except maybe the Runner) to lay every day like the Khakis do, though.
In the spring, I plan on getting a dozen or so Welsh Harlequins. And I shall never, never, again leave the coop open for the predators!
Oh, we are eating the eggs, and selling a few, and giving away the rest. A friend of mine reported that her toddler said this the other morning: "Mama, I want scambaled eggs! No chicken eggs! Ducks eggs!" I guess that's an endorsement.
