Hi! We just got chickens this past year. Raised as chicks. We had one RIR that was hand held as a baby but ended up continuously attacking my young son. Are barred rock and silkies are by far the most docile and child friendly. Good luck
Im in hunderdon county. The tractor supply store in flemington sells them. Also the feed store in sergeantsville. Im building my chickens a new coop come spring. I got many books with coop plans from the hunderdon library. If you can use a hammer and have time, some books have really easy...
My Amerucana had this same problem a month ago. After 3 days of warm bath soaks and trying to push it back in we decided it was best to cull her. Once a hen has a prolapsed vent they will always have this problem. If your other hens do catch on to her injury and see the red they probably will...
I took the barred rock out for 2 weeks and then returned her to the flock. It was if she never left. She went right back to pecking at the silkies the second she got back into the coop. I isolated her again. I don't know what the heck I'm going to do now.
I just caught her! She was a mile from my house freeranging on the side of the road. I saw her driving home from work today. I'm amazed she is alive and unharmed. We are so happy she is back home.
After 30 day quarentine and close cage contact we moved 3 new chickrnd to our flock of 4. The first few days they pecked at the polish top hat and bullied her around, she protected the 2 silkies under her. Yesterday, the bullied her so bad she ran away and never came back. Now My silkie is being...
I read up on all things chicken before doing them. I took all of the precautionary steps in introducing them as to not have any sick birds. They never hurt her just kind of showed her who was boss. She learned to keep her distance so I'm thinking when it was time to roost the close quarters...
We did have them seperated but next to each other for 30 days. We then put them together 3 days ago. I was home all day and they were all hanging out closely to each other free ranging. I went out around 5:30/ sun down and all the chickens but the top hat were roosting. I last saw her at 4:30...
I recently introduced 3 new chickens to my flock of 4. The 4 older girls were ganging up on the new polish top hat. They were all free ranging today and the tophat never made it back into the coop tonight. I can't seem to find her anywhere. Did they scare her away for good? Think she will come...
