My Silkie 'ate' a 2.25 inch peice of silicone tubing!! Exit strategy please!!

I've seen olive oil prescribed for impacted crops, so that should work just fine. I wouldn't worry too much about her unless she starts acting unwell. Good luck!

My Silkie 'ate' a 2.25 inch peice of silicone tubing!! Exit strategy please!!

There are natural oils that will kind of lubricate their digestive system like they do ours, I'll try to get a list together. How flexible is the tubing?

Can pasty butt make a chick this sick?

Some chicks just never are quite as strong.

    Bad food

Hopefully everything will be okay. Chickens were fed scraps for years in older times without people really knowing what was poisonous or not. I would think the worst that could happen may be an upset stomach.

    Pink and swollen feet

Her feet look normal to me. Is it cold where you live right now? The pinkness may be from that. If you're really worried you could clean her feet super well and post another picture. Things may be clearer when they're super clean :p

Please help! My dog got my hen!

It sounds like she may have some kind of injury to her leg, or in the best case scenario, her balance is just affected now that she doesn't have full use of that wing. Does her leg have any swelling or redness? You're doing the right thing wrapping it, just keep her inside and comfortable.

    Bad food

Some "poisonous" foods will just give the chickens an upset stomach or are not the best, not many will actually kill them if they're fed it once. If you don't know what they were fed, just keep an eye on them for any signs of illness. Sitting down and acting sleepy, strange poops, etc.

Can pasty butt make a chick this sick?

Pasty butt could just be a sign of another illness. It may be a symptom or a result, and not the cause. Weak chicks do tend to get it easier. Do you have electrolytes in their water, and is the chick separated from the others?

That may be a good idea, they can carry certain illnesses too.

    Dry combs?

It did seem to help my hens with large combs. It acts like a moisturizer to them just like it does to us My rooster has a rose comb so he was a little better off, but I went ahead and did him as well and there was definitely nothing negative that happened.

FOUND LICE AND MITES ON ROOSTER!! How to clean coup??

Sounds good! My battle with mites is kind of ongoing, the wild birds here must be spreading them over and over. But it's okay, I've never had a severe infestation. They dust bathe regularly and that helps them a ton.

Need Advice on Decreasing Egg Production In Injured Hen

It sounds like she'll be okay to me, her body just needs time to fix itself up.

day 17, horrific dog attack. should I bathe her?

When my pullet was attacked by a dog, I kept her in the garage with supplementary heat. She had a large, somewhat deep, wound on her thigh with skin completely gone. We used a rinse medicine. I wasn't allowing her to dust bathe, which evidently was driving her crazy. One day as I carried her to...

Need Advice on Decreasing Egg Production In Injured Hen

I'm assuming when you wrapped her vent, you're leaving it open enough to expel anything she needs to. Hopefully her body will instinctually put its energy towards healing instead of producing eggs. Mine was attacked last year on her thigh, stomach, and back, and she didn't lay again until she...

    Red Star might be poisoned

You don't need heaters under 40, I wouldn't think. Your chickens are used to warmer weather, being in Florida, but chickens survive just fine under 40 degrees without supplementary heat. What makes you think the frogs may have been poisonous, have you been able to identify what type they are?

    Dehydration recovery? How long?

I've never dealt with severe dehydration but it sounds to me like you're doing everything entirely right. What an awful pet sitter!! The head crook could end up being permanent, although hopefully it'll straighten itself out the longer she gets normal hydration.

    Silkie Hen Can't Lay Egg

It sounds like she's having trouble with soft eggs breaking inside of her or something like that. Have you found any hard egg shells? The more you can clean that stuff out the better. The bare breast could be either her crop being fuller than normal and parting the feathers, or she could have...

    Dry combs?

I used vaseline on my chickens when their combs got a little chapped last winter. Two had a touch of frostbite, but I went ahead and treated all of them preventatively. Combs always seem to look and feel dryer in the winter (at least to me). If you want to add a thin layer of Vaseline and rub...

FOUND LICE AND MITES ON ROOSTER!! How to clean coup??

I would do the hose and scrub routine, then dust all surfaces liberally, then add bedding. Make sure it airs out though, the dust isn't good for their lungs. Repeat in 10 days to get (hopefully) all of them. Just a tip for dusting birds, I used an old pantyhose filled with the Sevin dust. I let...

    Chick with Wry neck disease

Wry neck often occurs so the neck lies on the back, almost as if they're looking up at the sky, or trying to tuck their head under their wing. I've also heard of their heads going under their bodies, in between their legs, which can make them lose their balance and fall forward. In chicks is...
