Thanks superchickruth. I did see it on line. She acts like normal and swelling is less. Still swollen, but doing very well. I guess we will just keep a good eye on her. But thanks for the response:)

    Swollen abdomen

Did you have to drain it more than one time? We have 7 silkies so i can't know if she is laying, but i doubt it. I hope she doesn't though!

    Swollen abdomen

Lol. Actually this will probably cause an uproar from readers, but we did nothing. The swelling is much less, she eats, drinks, poops and runs around like normal! I saw on line that if she is doing o.k. let it go down by itself. That seemed the best for her and us:). So somehow she is doing...

    Prolapsed vent with picture

O.k. yesterday after a long soak and prep h it stayed in probably an hour. She poops, eats soft food, drinks and is isolated. No eggs in 3 days. But most of the protruding part is hard. Should I keep putting it back in or will it never recover now that it's hard?

My rooster isn't mating the hens

O.k. Here is a strange one... my ee lays eggs normally but also mounts and tries to do the deed on the other girls. If there is a spot of blood in the egg is it fertile? Are there hermaphrodite chix? We don't have a rooster. Help?!

Do eggs need to be refrigerated or not?

I always steam mine about 23 mins in a double boiler with the lid on and they peel perfectly every time. After steaming them rinse with cold water until you can handle them. Crack big end and peel...voila!
