Sadly enough my girl Stella ended up passing away. She seemed to improve but just stopped eating; couldn't figure out why, and no matter what I tried she just wouldn't eat. My flock is healthy, I have had no other problems, so God willing that will be the end of it, and I wish all of you good...
My girl Stella has improved. I did not use prednisone for her symptoms, due to the cost. My local co-op didn't have any anti inflammatory meds that I could use so I split an ibuprophen 4 ways and gave her that once per day: I also gave her a dropper full of B complex once per day, and a Vitamin...
I believe my young hen has developed this. She was fine when I let them out to free range today, but when I went out to close up the coop she was huddled under the roost with her head at an odd angle. I am going to start her on vitamin e in the morning when I get some. Praying this works, she is...
I lost one pullet last year for an unknown reason. None of my other chickens are sick, nor do they have any spots, and no none of my hens have had any vaccines. There hasn't been any signs of lameness with the sick bird either. She eats, and drinks normally, even free ranges with the other hens...
So far all the bumps appear to be the same. I will take more picture's tomorrow and post them. She is eating, drinking, and acts like any other hen; they don't seem to bother her when I have looked at or examined her.
I had the same problem happen in my run. I now let my flock out several times a week to free range in my fenced back yard. I live in Tennessee, and like you we have a lot of predators. When I first started letting them out someone was always with them until they were put back in. I now let them...
Eggs started hatching on Monday evening, lost 1 on Monday, and 3 more hatched Tuesday into Wednesday morning. There are 2 eggs left, how long should I wait before I remove them? One feels too light to contain a chick but the other doesn't. Any advise is appreciated.
I am new to this; first chick hatched last night. Found it dead this morning. Is there anything I can do after the chick has hatched? Hen is sitting on the eggs, and a second one is starting to hatch, I hate to lose any more. Any advice will be much appreciated.
My flock stays in the coop/run while I am not at home. When I am at home I let them out to roam my back yard several hours at a time, unsupervised with me or my daughter going out and checking on them periodically. They love getting out of the coop for a few hours every day, and wait by the door...
This makes a lot of sense, I took her off the nest today, and she ran around some and took a dust bath. Still not wanting to take time to eat, but a small piece of apple placed right in front of her when she was back on the nest she nibbled on. I appreciate all the advise I can get.
Thank you so much for the info. I will try the runny oatmeal today. I got her off the next yesterday, and she finally ran around and scratched a little, but she didn't eat or drink much. Thanks again.
We are on day 4 of sitting; and I am already worried about my girl. I put food in with her, but I can't tell if she is eating, I set her out and try to get her to drink water and she wont. I have used a syringe to make sure she gets water, but how much is enough?
I recently (in the last few days) had a hen go broody, and she is sitting on her eggs. She is in a nest box in the coop, and the other hen's still go in and lay next to her to lay their eggs. Is this okay? Do I need to move her out of the coop and separate her from the others? Can she hatch her...
Two maybe 3 days. My daughter kept taking her eggs, and then we missed a day or so of collecting, that is when we noticed that she wouldn't come out of the coop.
