At what age do the chicks come off the nest?

Okay so I have gotten many different responses on what age I should start feeding my chicks veggies. So I would like to hear as many different opinions as possible and I know once I start feeding them veggies I need to start giving them grit. So at what age do I start feeding them veggies?

They are still in the brooder and I use pine shavings. I would like to use sand as grit. How do I do that?

I'm not a chicken expert but I did read that if you approach your chickens from above they think that you are a bird of pray so you should approach them close to the ground.

Thanks as they are only 5 days old it is probably going to be colder at there 6th week of life i should wait to put them out.
