I have a rescue hen that we brought home quite a while back. She laid an egg for us on labor day and every other day for about a week. No eggs since then. My others are just about old enough to lay but havn't started yet. They get a mix of crumble and starter (I have 2 young bantams in the coop)...
I had one in my very first batch of chicks that was tiny and had scraggly feathers like in the pictures. We almost lost her the first night we had her...managed to bring her back only for one of my dogs to get her a few weeks later. I considered it to be natural selection since I felt she may...
Thank you for the replys! Im seeing a pattern of needing an airtight box for huddling in the winter. Perhaps an igloo type dog house would do the trick?
Love your coop! I think I'm more concerned about my bantams....they are just so tiny. Also, our coop is made out of fencing and pallets so more wind goes through it. My husband wants to put them in the closet in our garage...I HATE the idea so Im looking for an idea that would be a compromise.
I love our coop and I think the hens do to, but Fall is here and winters are just around the corner. What heating source is best to use that wont be a fire hazard? Im in Texas, it ranges anywhere from 40s and 50s F for the highs to the teens at night.
That is her cone, its shorter than most so she can still eat! She hates it but it works. Her nose is clear and the only other discharge is coming from her eye. Im assuming its from being so swollen. Its clear. No bubbles.
Went with sulmet instead of the topical because all of the scratches are scabbed over now. We read all the cautions about sulmet and only gave her half of the recommended dosage (shes so tiny I was scared) The redness is gone but the swelling is much worse. Ill try to get a picture but its hard...
Ok, hubby built her a little cone to wear (like the ones dogs wear after they get fixed) so she couldnt scratch it, we got and gave her a low dose of sulmet last night just in case. The redness is almost gone but today its even more swollen (swollen shut). Shes eating and drinking fine. no...
One of my smaller chickens has been getting pecked at (not enough to be removed) but she did get a little cut around her eye that is now all red and puffy. What should I do?
