Normally clean chicken has dirty bottom and now mites

My RIR hen is going on 7yrs old, normally very clean. Just recently I noticed that she has a very dirty bottom become lethargic and I just noticed mites. Are mites attracted to dirty bottom? I used some poultry dust. What’s going on here? Eyes are bright and Comb is red.

Bald patches around chickens' vents and super bright red skin

Mine are still laying, although they have dropped off a bit. A new theory is that they are fighting over roosting space or nesting space. Im staring to address those issues now! It's still a mystery!

Bald patches around chickens' vents and super bright red skin

I'm having this same problem. I cleaned (removed pine shavings then vacuumed, then scrubbed) coop, twice (10 days apart) then dusted with poultry dust thoroughly. Will probably do it again. I think I see small improvement. This has been going on for a long time, I've tried to eliminate causes...

Broody Hens and what to do?

I have a hen whose been in the nest for over a month. Most days she gets off for an hour and eats and drinks. I tried the crate method but it didn't seem to make any difference. As soon as she got out she was back in the nest. This the second time she's been broody in her first year.

    Weird feather loss pattern

I've have mixed group of 11 birds that are 1 yr old. All of the birds grew a downy patch of feathers on their backs near tail feathers early in the winter (mild winter this year). Now all those feathers are falling out. Only one chick has grown new feathers, all the rest have bald patches with...

    Hen bullied hiding out

Yup, I agree. Since she's been out of the social circle for a while she has to reintegrate. I'm assuming that's why she's being picked on.

    Hen bullied hiding out

She hasn't laid for almost a week. She does have a bare bottom. I may try a bag of frozen veg in the nesting box. But so far today she came for breakfast but did not come to I put a little food in her box. Every time anyone goes near her her heckles go up, she puffs up and she pecks our gloved...

    Hen bullied hiding out

Thank you for the replies. Today she came out for a short time and ate and drank water! I locked her out of coop for a short time and she had some time freeranging. I've turned off the light in morn and night. She is a cuckoo maran and I am thinking she may be broody after all.

    Hen bullied hiding out

We have a variety of hens that we got as chicks this past spring. We added two to the flock in Oct (to make 11) and things were going well until recently. One of the new hens was staying in a nesting box day and night. We thought she was sick, or broody and isolated her for day. Gave her calcium...

My first post to bare with me!! I have 9 chicks ( 4 weeks old, 3 RIR, 2 BR, 2 Black Austrolorps, 2 Araucanas) in a largish brooder. all have been getting long just fine. I've been taking them out on warm days for an hour or so. Last evening, I noticed a tiny red patch near tail feathers on one...

smart enough to go in coop?

I have 4 barred rocks who started roosting outside a few weeks after the time change. Their coop has a light that comes on 30 min before it gets dark but they have been roosting outside. This is their 3rd winter and this is the first time they have done this. It is freezing outside and yet they...
