Thanks to everyone who has tried to assist me with this problem. Attached are photos of the coop interior. The door opens into an enclosed run that is part of the tractor.
While taking the photos, I decided to remove a 25W timed red light I had installed to provide them light just to go to...
All of my older hens were rehomed. All of these ladies were raised in the same brooder, and moved to the coop at the same time. I’ll try to get a photo later. Thanks
Same tractor, same door, same door settings, same everything for the last 10 years. My new flock, now 12 week old pullets, insist on attempting to roost in the doorway! 5 out of 7 nights a week there are between 1 and 3 birds pinned in the automatic door.
The automatic door is slow and noisy...
Purchased a bag of the NCO Soy Free pellets. It looks like I may have to starve my flock into eating them! I placed a handful on the ground. Each hen excitedly ran over, grabbed a pellet, dropped it, pecked it a bit, then walked away.
I have two feeders, so I filled one with the regular...
As others have mentioned, I agree that the freshness plays a part in how well the feed is consumed. I have switched dealers to one that keeps the feed in a climate controlled storefront, instead of a warehouse. It appears that the fresher feed is better received by my flock. Although they...
I know I am very late to the conversations, but I am redeemed to see that it isn't just my flock picking through NCO. I called them last year about the waste in the feed that was not so bad with my previous flock. The folks at NCO acted like they've never heard of birds not eating the pale...
Fortunately, the remainder of my new flock seems to be thriving. I can only guess that my poor RIR chick must have been skipped in the vaccination process, or the vaccine did not work for her.
I would like to have them to serve as treats, but I don't know where those store bought ones have been, or what they have been fed. If I raised my own, or had access to live ones from a reputable source, I'd use them as treats occasionally.
Thanks. My thoughts went first to Marek's too. However, they were all supposed to be vaccinated for Marek's at the hatchery. I guess it is conceivable that one got skipped or that the vaccine is not 100%.
I will keep a close eye on them and get some vitamin supplement for their water. They...
I have a flock of 16 new hatchery birds that have grown out beautifully over the last seven weeks. 4 days ago a RIR started with 1 drooping wing. Then a drooping wing and a limp. Then drooping wing and a dragging non extended foot. Finally a drooping wing, and an inability to to open either...
Free Chickens in their third year and in molt, but were laying. Two Rhode Island Reds, Two Plymouth Barred Rock, One Dominique, One Andalusion, One Speckled Sussex, One Golden Laced Wyandotte, One Americana (Easter Egger). Will not separate. Fed all organic feed.
Must be gone this weekend...
Age of Ultron had some great parts, but I did not like the whole movie. Some things sort of awkwardly cobbled into the movie. My biggest beef is the whole waxing waning superhero power thing. Their powers always fail them when a plot twist is needed. On the bright side, it did keep the...
Welcome to BYC. We love our one speckled sussex. I'd like to have a whole flock of them like yours. They are so attractive and personable. Although the rest of our flock is pretty lean, our SS is very fat and sassy!
