I have been having serious issues with my goat. She is about 5 years of age and as she gets older, she seams to keep getting meaner. She is our only goat so I'm not sure if loneliness is this issue, but she has bonded with my border collie and I visit her daily to let her run around. We...
I have been spraying her wounds with Bannixx ( a disinfectant) and It has healed a lot! She looks a lot better and I think she will be alright. I might try neosporin. Thanks for the tips!!
Thanks for all of the advice! The chicks are staying locked in the coop now and we put screen over the vent to keep snakes out. The older birds are being free ranged right now, but when they go back into the coop, we will snake proof the outdoor part too.
A rat snake got into my coop and started constricting my 8 week old hen too! I saw her flapping around and my brother mangaged to shoot it without hurting the chicken. I think that snakes will attack bigger hens if the hens try to hurt the snake. My chicken is still living, but the other one's...
The chicks are staying inside of the coop right now, but I want to secure the outside for my older chickens too. Another king snake got inside of a vent in my coop today, but I heard the chicks and got to them in time. We are going to put some smaller wire on the vents (since it got through the...
I want to make my chicken coop safer for my baby chickens because a snake attacked one of them and now I am concerned. What is the best way to keep snakes out of the coop. My main coop is snake proof, but the outside is a chicken wire cage where snakes can get in and out easily. What's to best...
There have been other reports of respiratory failure due to Aspen exposure so I would not take any chances. Try using pine shavings, sand, and hay as bedding. It works great in my coop.
I introduced my baby chickens to the flock when they where a month and a half old. Maybe introduce them slowly to the other chickens and monitor them to make sure the other chickens don't really hurt them. A peck or two is normal to show the pecking order, but after a little while, the other...
Low egg production and a nasty butt are both signs of old age. This happened to all of my hens before they died of old age (they were 6 years old.) It could also be vent gleet or possibly a parasite. Examine her closely and maybe contact the place you got her from to verify her age.
I'm sorry to say that you probably have a rooster on your hands. I thought I had 2 hens a few years ago, but then they both started crowing like that and they turned out to be roosters. If you can keep him, roosters make great free rangers, but if not I wish you and you chicken the very best.
What colors are your chickens? You could name them based on color or personality.
Example:
A golden chicken could be named:
Paris
Goldie
Sunny
Cream
A black chicken could be named:
Midnight
Mocha
Star
A White Chicken could be named:
Snow
Pearl
Cloud
A brown chicken could be named:
Gladys...
This is the wounded chicken. She doesn't appear wounded from the outside because the damage is under her wing.
This is under her wing. You can see the basic location of the wound.
This is an up-close picture of the main wound. The skin was particularly raw when we saved her and now it...
Two days ago, a king snake got into my chicken coop and wrapped around my 2 month old Rhode Island Red hen. It had just started constricting the hen when is saw it and we killed the snake before it killed my chicken, but now she has places on her side and tummy when the skin has completely...
Could be a fox. A fox got three of my baby chickens at 9:00 in the morning and attempted to pull them through the fence. I would recommend setting a trap or two and keep the living chickens locked up tight.
