Thanks DT.
Have any idea about the cost of a Cochin hen?
While your at it, if I purchased two roosters, do you know of a good way to get them together without having a fight?
I need to purchase an adult rooster. I like the idea of an Orpington, a Sussex, or a NH. Can anybody give me an idea as to what I would be expected to pay at a chicken auction?
Thanks Kramer Farms. That's a big help. Does anyone know of a landmark on the auction grounds where we can meet about 12:00? Sure would be fun. Maybe someone could hold up a sign with BYC on it. I would be glad to do so if it would help. I'm planning on the Saturday auction.
I'll plan on being there. YC is my home town. Is it possible to have a meeting place there so we can all meet one another? We would have to set up a time and place.
As for any of you, it will be easy to identify me. I'm the good lookin one.
I just found BYC a few days ago. I'm really glad to see that we have a Kansas thread. I live in SE Kansas west of the town that is between Elsmore and Stark.
Kansas Chicken Mama and BigByrd24, we are neighbors!

Okay, gritsar, I'll close the door to their run and just keep them in the building for a few days. I especially like the part of your post where you said that I'll have some seriously ticked off chickens. I'm ready for them to get as ticked off as I am.
Gritsar, this works, I'll put...

My roosting area for my 17 Wyandottes is about 8' by 10'. Then there is another building built on the east side of this roosting area, and that is where their nesting boxes are. The area of this building where they nest is about 10' by 10'. Aside from these two areas inside they have...
I have never had this problem. My chickens will not go back inside after being in the yard on free range. Every group of chickens that I have ever had would just go back to their roost at sundown, and all I had to do was to go out and shut them in. Not this bunch. I have to go out at sundown...
