Hi! We started with 18. Out of the 11 eggs that went into lockdown, we got 10! So 10 total eggs hatched and are doing well. I'll get better pics when they are all fluffed up! The last 2 hatched after I went to bed last night. This has been such a fun thing to participate in, and follow along...
My first pipped egg greeted me upon waking... as a newly hatched naked neck silkie!! (Showgirl) whatever you wanna call them. I was very surprised, and my kids are going get a huge kick out of seeing a naked neck chickie!
Out of the remaining 10 eggs, we have 6 pips. This is day 20 for me!!
First pip today! I have 3 pips!! Day 19, silkies. I went from 18 eggs (6 rainbow, 12 silkie) to 11 at lockdown. (5 rainbow, 6 silkie) had a 3 or 4 non fertile, and a few quitters. I don't want to go to bed and miss hatching!!
Out of my barred rocks and buff orpingtons, the barred rocks are better layers. They lay more consistently and more often for me! I don't have experience with the lavender orpingtons though
We have loads of these little winged black bugs in the coop. Noticed them during our deep cleaning. Any ideas? We're in our first year of chicken keeping. It's been really wet here in Kansas, and the winter has been on the mild side.
