I would like Malay, Sumatran, and more silkie. I have had a variety of chickens but the ones i will continue to keep are Silkies, Cochins, BBR Krienkoppe, Naked necks, and Eastereggers.
Well, an update
the chicken eggs have started to hatch, unfortunately the mommy birds are being overly aggressive and because nobody knows who's eggs are who's, three of the chicks have been scalped, unfortunately all three scalped babies are still alive, (4 hours after i found them and brought...
OK so in my humble opinion if your chicken tractor is a tractor and not a coop tractor (aka a frame covered in wire that is mobilized around the yard to allow daily fresh grazing) then as long as the coating is DRY! and you dont smell fumes from it when you are 12" away, then your chickens are...
I love broodiness, but the reliability of the hens to care for the eggs is questionable at this time. I want to be able to seclude the broodies so that they can hatch in peace
I have an issue where i appear to have 5 broody chicken hens and 1 broody muscovy duck. The problem is that they have all taken up residence in the one chicken coop and no one chicken can remember whose eggs are whose and on top of that i have more chickens laying under my broody hens. i don't...
So at 6 eggs i started finding my little Petunia would overnight on the eggs in the chicken coop, none of my chickens will sit in that bay except to lay eggs. So during the day my little petunia doesn't sit on the eggs at all. So my chickens crawl in and lay eggs amongst the ducks down lined...
Thank You Miss Lydia
Ill see if i can't encourage her to lay in the duck hut. Thankfully last night i looked in the coop to see that none of the chickens were sleeping in that bay
So i have a Muscovy duck who has started laying. i am super happy about this but she has started laying in my chicken coop in one of the hen bays. On the one hand this is GREAT, i love the spot she picked, the problem is that at night the chickens often sleep in that bay. which means the...
I bought a trio in the January from a BYC member. The drake and one hen were born in 2014, and the hen who laid my egg was born i believe the year before. She is the oldest of the three muscovies, but i have only had the Muscovies since January.
So this morning i went and let all my birds out to start their day of chicken and ducky activities. Then i went about my other daily animal chores, and i noticed my little muscovy hen head into the chicken coop. Well she settled right in and made herself at home, i later came back to discover...
In my humble opinion, one of my all time favorite ducks is the Muscovy, They are ugly as all get out! like a Turkey mated a small goose/duck. But my Drake Flagg is a super friendly but protective guy who weighs in at around 12-15lbs. at that size some predators thing twice about messing with a...
