The discoloration does look like thin spots, but they don't actually seem to be thinner. Due to the number of them that I collect, it makes me think more than one hen is laying them, and I agree that it seems odd fir them to darken after collection.
I manage a school flock of seven hens (various breeds). I collect MANY eggs have these dark patches at the top and I'm trying to figure out what it means, if anything. Sometimes the eggs look like that when I collect them, sometimes they darken at the top later. The dark spots are always at the...
Oh, and I'm not entirely sure of her breed, so feel free to weigh in with an opinion if you have one. I asked on the "What Breed is This" forum, and a couple of people have suggested Black Sexlink, which seems fair enough. Are they typically so broody? We have eight other birds, and none of them...
I'm a super-newbie here, and am pretty new at chicken-keeping. I manage a coop with 9 hens at a school, so the bird in question in not on my property and I am not there every day (we have a rotation of parent volunteers helping with care over the summer), which causes standard chicken...
Okay, I looked at some pics of Black Sexlinks...definitely looks like that could be her. Thank you! The hen in the background is for sure a Black Copper Marans, and this bird's feathers look a little bit like the Marans, but I don't really think they look alike otherwise. Clearly, I'm no expert...
I'm sorry the picture is sideways...let me know if it's a problem and I will try to turn it and repost. Can someone identify the hen in the foreground (I know the one behind her is a Black Copper Marans). Thanks!
I have hunches as to what a couple of them are, but I'd like someone with more knowledge to chime in. Thanks!

(3) (Sorry, this is the best photo I could snap of her...the black chicken)
(4) I think I know what this girl is, but what about the red hen behind her?
Thanks...
Our school has nine chickens, five that we've had since they were tiny chicks, and four hens that were already laying when we inherited from one of our families. Our five hens are laying now, and have never had experience to ranging. The other four ranged at their previous home, but haven't...
Hello, all! I hope I'm posting this in the right section...I looked around, and this seemed like the most appropriate place, but please advise otherwise if necessary. The school I work for acquired 7 chicks last spring (6 survived), and later took in 6 more from a family that was moving and...
