Thank you very much Karen. Thats pretty much how they are arranged now except that the pullets and cockerels are still all in one group. Looks like I'll be busy building a couple more pens. I really appreciate you taking the time to comment.
I want to hatch some Orpington eggs and I have a variety of colours in both hens and roosters. I would like to separate them into groups and need some advice on which colours should go together. I'm not looking to add or get rid of any at this time. Here's what I have.

Thanks GAQuail. I was wondering about the effects paper towel would have on humidty. I figured I might have to put a couple lids with water on top to keep it around 80%.
Do you float your eggs before locking them down? These were shipped and I'm sure they're not all viable but I can't see...
Thanks. That's a good idea. I was reading a thread on here where people are hatching them in the egg cartons. I may also give that a try with the shelf liner under the carton.
My quail eggs are on day 11 in the Hova-bator. I'm wondering if when it's time to lock them down I should be putting them on paper towel. I've read that there feet are so small that they will go through the screen. Would appreciate any feedback. thanks.
I just got 4 sliding glass door panels from someone and my intention was to use two side by side for one of the short walls and the other two for part of the roof. I'll put some poultry netting below it so the don't fly up and knock their heads. The rest will all be hardware cloth. TSC had it...
My plan was that after I covered to area in top soil I would buy some sod and lay it down so that the whole area is covered in grass. In the old pen I had large low planters with small evergreens which I pulled up and planted. They all survived the quail.
Thanks for your reply. That gives me some hope that it's doable. I will have to make this pen more secure than the last. I had a 1' apron of hardware cloth along the ground but a weasel managed to dig under and killed them all. This time I'm going to use 4"x4" for the perimeter and line the...
Thanks everyone. The reason that I wanted to know was because I have two roosters, both Amerecauna and some of the hens hatched chicks this summer and I have a few left that I'm trying to sell. A couple people have asked me what they are crossed with and my best guess is these two hens but I...
Not really. I thought they were the same as the hen in my profile which is a BLR Wyandotte but the comb is a lot different. The guy thought they were Plymouth Rock but I couldn't find any online in this colour.
I only have the 6 quail in total and I don't want any more. She has to either go back to the male with two hens or try and join the male with one hen which I think is my best bet. Since they don't roost I don't know if it would help to put them together at night. Also I want to be around to...
