Thanks Mary, I only release them after they've been skinned... My understanding is they don't bother chickens after that :)
I'll see if I can work up a drawing... but so far my google-fu isn't turning any thing up. Basically I'm looking the doodad to hang the electric fence wire on, but I want...
Well Today, we caught a raccoon on the the trail cam and in the trap, likely the same raccoon.
Question about the fencing, does anyone make a electric fence insulator that is made to do the multiple rows across the top? I can roll my own if I have to but the wife always gets nervous when I do...
My experience in the past with Racoons has been massacre style 3 or 4 birds and they have left them where they killed'em partially eaten. They could have changed their MO but I feel like this is something else. Carcass is no where to be found no bones, nothing but feathers...
Dog proof traps? (he asked hoping he didn't sound too dumb)
Agreed!
I agree, may or may not have been him, even if it was, he's probably one of several. So what I'm hearing (reading) is that solid fencing is better/preferred over some-kind of predator urine?
Thanks everyone for all the...
Yeah Opossum in the trap today... for clarity, I actually placed the trap just outside the fence where the feather trail went up.
I don't know the Racoons gender, didn't ask and Id hate to assume and offend him :lol
I'll work at taking out the tree this weekend, I like the Idea of running...
Thanks for all the responses guys.
The primary fence is 6 ft chain link, around the outside are two strands of electric fence the first about 6 inches off the ground and the second about 10 inches above the first, it off the chain link about 10 -12 inches. Not against going with another stand...
I'm losing birds to predators. Early on it was Opossums and Raccoons, I installed an automatic chicken door for the coop and lit the perimeter with two strands of electric fence. that seemed to solve that problem, not losing birds in the nighttime anymore. Now I have a new problem and I...
So it's been a while coming, I picked up a couple of Narragansett turkeys in the spring of 13 cuz they guy I was buying chicks from had them and wanted to sell them lol , I was hoping to have breeding pair,,, (rolled the dice) turns out they were both Tom's... so I was in Orscheln's in spring...
That's actually a bag full of mulch, and she is about 2 ft from a straw bale that I was storing under there. I'm a little worried about handling the eggs, I don't want to upset/distrub her any more than I have to.... Is that silly?
Sooooo I'm fairly certain that these are not all her eggs, there is too much variation in color, I some Buff O's that seem to have contributed. I guess they all got together and had meeting and decided that since that fat guy in the overalls keeps swiping their eggs they'll hide, them. I...
Well she's already back on the nest... I guess I'm not going to mess with her. I suppose I should put some food and water near where is sitting? This will be the first time I've had a broody hen so this is new territory for me... Any suggestions/advice/help is welcome!
She is off be...
So I stumbled upon a hen sitting on eggs, under a deck in the back yard (I initially though a fox has gotten her) ,,,, She has about 15 eggs she is sitting on,,, which leads me to my questions:
1.Can she actually hatch the eggs in the colder temps? we are in KCMO so we aren't really...
