i've heard they sell chicks, but I was told that the chicks there look sick... i've never been there myself, so I can only take my buddies word. What is your experience with their chicks?
I was going to say Ideal Poultry as well. I live in the Rio Grande Valley, and I've been flirting with the idea of buying some cornish x from them.
good luck
I live in deep South Texas along the border, and I'm wondering if the Cornish Cross can do well in the humid summer heat? I'd say on average, the temps are about 97, with the highs being around 105. I think I know the answer to this question, but I just wanted to ask experienced owners...
first off, i need to get them some treats...but I did sprinkle their feed down the ladder, but they focused on the feed that hit the ground and not the ladder.
Great! That's very reassuring.
Its funny though, because we put in a ramp for them to walk up into their makeshift coop, but they haven't discovered how to use it yet!
We just expanded their brooder to become a little coop and run. It will be their temporary home until we expand our other coop/run. Question is that there is a 30% chance of rain tomorrow early morning, and I just want to know if my chicks will be okay if they get a little wet.
I've been...
So I have 3 chicks that are about 10 weeks old out in the coop/run. I have 4 more that are about 4 weeks old, and I'm about to get 3 more that are about 5 weeks old. How do I go about introducing them?
The 3 chicks in the coop/run are australorp or some mixed breed. The 4 i currently have...
going back to the first picture, and taking a second look at them last night, i noticed that the chick at the far left has a larger comb than the pullet, but it doesn't have any waddles like the other three cockerels...i know it's hard to tell that in the picture, but I'm hoping that he/she...
thinking of having my coop elevated two feet off the ground and then surrounding it with the fence. maybe 15x15, 5' tall no fencing on the top or bottom. Just around the perimeter.
Other than chicken wire, what else would be a good option?
I want a 5 foot fence that surrounds my coop.
Also, I need to know how much it's going to end up costing too, so if you know, please tell me!!
i'm new to raising chickens as well, but I'll share with you the little knowledge I have:
The rule of thumb with the heating lamp, during the first week you keep them at a temp of 95, week 2 is 90, week 3 is 85, week 4 is 80. So you just decrease the temp by 5 degrees every week. Depending...
I bought them off craigslist. guy said he sold 100/week, and said he would sell me 5 pullets. They might have been 2-3 days old when I picked them up though, so that could have been my mistake as well. He offered to exchange them. For each rooster he'd give me two chicks, but I don't want to...
