Hen crowing or rooster who squats?

I’ll look into it! I’m hoping she’ll stop once she starts laying again.

Hen crowing or rooster who squats?

I went out extra early and caught the crower in the act. It’s my olive egger hen who is number 3 in the pecking order. She was crowing inside of the coop on a roost rather than out in the run like I had suspected. Unfortunately, it was too dark for my phone to record and she only crowed two more...

Hen crowing or rooster who squats?

The March pullets are the two legbars, Easter egger, and the welsummer. The 2yr olds are definitely hens. I’ve seen every one of them lay (I like to know which hen lays which egg). The welsummer just started laying and the browner legbar has been laying for some time now. The only one I haven’t...

Hen crowing or rooster who squats?

my older girls are 2yr olds. I’ve never had an issue with them before. The younger March pullets are about 7-8 months as well. I’ll include pictures of the rest of the flock. Since it’s likely a hen crowing, how does one go about getting her to stop lol?

Hen crowing or rooster who squats?

The bird in question looks like a hen. But it’s the only one of the March pullets that’s not laying yet. I don’t have any other cockerels, and I keep track of which hen lays what egg, so I know for sure that every other chicken is a hen/pullet. That’s why I’m assuming the Easter egger is the...

Hen crowing or rooster who squats?

I purchased a pullet Easter egger chick back in March. When he was 1.5 months old I was convinced he was a cockerel because he had a very low “manly” voice unlike the other pullets who had soft hen sounding voices. He also had shiny tail feathers. The little guy was also my only Easter egger...

Whats a good cover crop for a chicken yard?

That's certainly the only way to prevent them from eating everything up. My lawn does very well, but it's had years to establish so no kidding haha! I wish I could speed up that process for the clover. Thanks for the suggestion :)

Thanks! I'll look into yellow clover, and the wire frame idea might just be what I need

Whats a good cover crop for a chicken yard?

Hmmm that makes sense. I'll fence off the area and allow the remaining clover to flower and reseed with some other crops in the spring. The hens are not gonna be happy now that they've got a taste of it :p

Whats a good cover crop for a chicken yard?

Thank you @ChickenCanoe I will try dandelion and alfalfa next @Tonyroo They sure loved it!! I grow it for them as well, but I would prefer not to have to reseed so often due to their foraging. Do you think it would do better once the roots are established? @chickenfinder I might give rye a go...

Whats a good cover crop for a chicken yard?

I grew a clover weed mix in my chicken yard and just today after three months of growth let the chickens in there. They destroyed it and pulled up a significant amount of the clover. I am thinking of reseeding soon. What's a good cover crop that can withstand chickens and ducks? I assumed the...

NorCal - ISO 10 week old Easter Egger or other blue/green laying breed

I’m look for an 10 week old, possibly a little older but not a full grown sized bird (I have a 9 week old brood that I would be adding to) blue or green egg laying breed. I’m looking for pullets to replace the cockerels in my existing group. If you have chicks but they look like cockerels...

    Something wrong?

Update on the not so little, bent neck baby. The scoliosis doesn’t really bother him. He is a little clumsy and sometimes trips over his own feet, but I don’t know if that’s just a Muscovy thing. Also, his tail doesn’t appear to be rotated at all. Here are some pictures:
