    Limping and pain med dosages

Hi. My name is Nan. I have a 12 yr old hen named Lily that I've had since she was a day old. Recently her coop mate passed. I brought in three pullets to keep her company. One of the pullets we noticed is limping. I've isolated her (she can still see everyone, they just can't chase her). She is...

Will RIR and Production Reds get along well with my hens?

I have Barred Rocks (2); Black Austrlorps (2); a Silver Laced Wyndotte (1); and a Easter Egger (1). One is broody and a friend has RIR and Production Red eggs to give me. Thoughts?

    Broody or Sick?

Thank you. That was very helpful. I'm no longer concerned that she is sick. Hoping I can stop this behavior by continuing to pull her out of the nest box. I can't close it off because the other girls need to use it.

    Broody or Sick?

My hen (3 years old) is sitting on the nest in the hot roosting box, nonstop. We are in AZ so it's worrying me. We don't have a rooster and do not want one. She will not be hatching anything so I remove all of the eggs periodically throughout the day and coax her out of there. She returns...

Drunk wobbly and low hanging crop. Marek's or pendolous crop or both?

I have no idea if any of this will help. I've collected bits and pieces of things for these times when we are helpless to help them. Seems like you know a lot more than I do but here is what I have collected. CROP ISSUES: When a chicken eats, all food makes it's way from the beak, down the...

Drunk wobbly and low hanging crop. Marek's or pendolous crop or both?

I am sorry about your sick girl. The one I eventually lost was having the gurgling sound as well and I had her in the house for some time. I got her to take some TUMs ground up and sprinkled on yogurt, and it seemed to help. But eventually she refused all food and water. Feel so helpless when I...

Drunk wobbly and low hanging crop. Marek's or pendolous crop or both?

So you said nothing can be done for a Mareks chicken. It's not treatable?

Drunk wobbly and low hanging crop. Marek's or pendolous crop or both?

The girls will be 2 next month (Oct 2). I haven't noticed any laying problems. But I can't always tell who is doing what. Bernadette ladi a weird soft shelled egg with a long bloody umbilical cord attached. She didn't lay again for about a week. Then seemed fine. Then she got withdrawn and...

Drunk wobbly and low hanging crop. Marek's or pendolous crop or both?

So how do we determine if it is Mareks? I am dealing with this too. My bird stopped having interest in food, after months of vets, hand feeding, etc, she died. Now I have another one starting to exhibit the same detachment to the group and no interest in snacks.

    vent picking

its not red, in fact they are so fluffy you can't even see it... so you think she is just being a "little sister"? She is the runt.

    vent picking

I saw one of my chickens picking at the vent of another... then when she turned around and shoo'ed her away with a peck, she went over to another chicken and pecked or pulled at her vent. I checked both of them and do not see any signs of critters. What is the cause of this?

    Two chickens now balding

Oh and, no visible bugs... but I dusted her with DE just in case.

    Two chickens now balding

Thank you both. I definitely have enough space. Ample room in multiple rooms to get away from each other, and they also free range at the end of the day. They always have a container of oyster shells at their disposal and I see them eat it occassionally. I give them veggies every morning to...

    Two chickens now balding

No I don't have a rooster so it's not over-mating. I also put a saddle on her for about 6 months and the feathers still didn't grow back. That is Gracie. She is also missing rear feathers. Now Pearl is starting to lose her rear fluff feathers on the left and ride side up to the leg. With some...

    Two chickens now balding

My Barred Rock has plucked her feathers off her back and tops of wings. She's been virtually bald for a long time now. No one is doing this to her, she is doing it. Now my fluffy healthy Silver Laced Wyndotte is starting to get a bare looking bottom. Left and right sides. The skin looks pink and...

    Leg injury

No. I've had her examined by a vet. No swelling that I can see.

    Leg injury

My chicken has been under the weather for some time. I suspected she had injured her left leg. Now she is limping/hopping to get around. Clearly has pain associated with weight on the left leg. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Leg sprained or fractured?

My chicken seems to be favoring her left leg. She had been ill and we had her inside to recuperate. We integrated her back outside and seemed to be on the mend. Now she is back to laying on the ground all day. Head up but laying down rather than standing. If she is in pain, it would explain the...
