They have plenty of light, I have been using the coop for several years with in problem. The dogs/coyotes took out my whole flock. I normally free range them.
My chicks are about 3 months old and still roost in a ball on the floor. They use the roosts in the daytime but sleep on the floor.
Also I always free range my chickens but wonder if they will return to sleep on the floor or just ball up outside to sleep. Have had many flocks but this bunch is...
My Broody Buff has been sitting on a golf ball for about 10 days, is is ok just to let her "Sit it out" ? I don;t have any other cage or place to put her other than in the coop so just wondered if she would eventually get the idea it isn't going to hatch.
There is no fertilizer or pesticides in or used in the green house, all natural. They are COTURNIX and about 6 weeks old. They are kept in a wire cage off the ground with a nest box and all the food and water they want. They have a sand dish with sand and DE also. They are kept dry and no...
I bought 6 quail about 3 weeks ago, they have been fine, feeding the same feed as they had before and they looked healthy and happy. Yesterday one died, feathers everywhere and the bottom of the quail was where they came from, the quail was much larger than all but one other. Today the other...
Sorry about the pictures, The large Buff is older. I bought the others thinking they were Easter eggers, glad to here they are really eggers. Two of them seem to cock fight a lot so I thought they may be Roos.
thanks to all that answered.
Anyone know what breeds these are. I know two are buffs but the rest? Also do any look like Roos? They are about 3-4 months and not yet laying.
Thanks for the help
All our Buffs but one was lunch for the coyotes so we bough the two large chickens (when small) and thought they were Buff Pullets. They are about 4 months now and very large and act like Roosters. They are not laying and mock fight most of the time. The smaller Buff lays every day. The...
Hawks usually take the chicken and they were in deep brush cover, wild cherry bushes, coyote and the rest usually also take the chicken. Most times dogs just kill it and leave it. Around here if you lose 20 or 30 it is usually a pack of dogs. I have had about every thing get them but never...
My chickengs free range and I have lost several at different times but yesterday I lost one that was different. Something just bit the head off and left the chicken, I have never seen that before and wonder if anyone has an idea what it may have been.
We had six Buffs, greatest free range happy chickens ever. They were all over the yard and would follow us everywhere looking for a treat. Last week we lost two to dogs and now they mostly stay in the coop not wanting to free range althought the door is open and they have stopped laying since...
Buffs are the greatest, We have had six for about a year that free range but today I found two piles of feathers and only have four now. It must have been a hawk as I was outside with them and did not hear or see anything. They were part of the family and will miss the girls.
Thanks for the welcome and good advice. The chickens have a few acres of woods and open land to roam so they should be happy. The run is small but they shouldn't spend too much time there.
Anyone near High Springs Fl have chickens to sell? Would like RIRs. about to lay if possible. There is...
