***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Coop is almost done and my 5 pullets are 5 weeks old now, so they'll be going outside very soon. Anyone have a great suggestion where to get some CHEAP or free bulk bedding materials? Straw, shavings, sawdust? The coop floor is 4' x 8'.

    TULSA area Cluckers

Hey all, anyone anywhere near Tulsa have any of the following I might be able to come look at, or maybe even acquire? Barred Rocks, any Marans, Australorps, Dominique's, Sussex, Dorkings? Thanks and looking forward to meeting lots of you! Richard

    Chicken Behavior - Shoulder Roosting

Yet another silly noob question (I seem to be full of them). I see all over BYC these pictures of young birds who seem to be running out and about inside their family's home, or perched up on their shoulders... My 3 week old pullets are literally pooping every few minutes. I can't take one...

Hey guys newbie here. I live in South Tulsa. Looking for people I can come visit and see your chickens and learn all that I can. Also looking for anyone selling black copper Marans or barred Plymouth rocks or suggested breeds that are both tame and tolerant of Oklahoma's heat and cold extremes...

For the Umpteenth Time - Rock, Dom, or Marans? (or all 3)

Yes, Roo or Two, I can see in your pic their yellow toes and flat / rose comb base, definitely look like Doms! And my small grey one looks a whole lot like them. My other two are definitely single comb, so either BR or Marans. At this point I can't really see a lot of yellow in their toes but I...

For the Umpteenth Time - Rock, Dom, or Marans? (or all 3)

Do Doms, Rocks, and Marans pullets all have equally well developed tail feathers by 2 or 3 weeks old generally? The Speckled Sussex chicks don't, but that's the extent of what I know.

For the Umpteenth Time - Rock, Dom, or Marans? (or all 3)

Thanks! Will post more pics after a few weeks then. Combs aren't really out yet at this stage, but looking really close it seems the 2 larger birds have a single row while the smaller grey has what looks more like a "pad" for lack of a better word. Could be a Dom cockerel and 2 BR pullets (or 2...

For the Umpteenth Time - Rock, Dom, or Marans? (or all 3)

Thanks for your reply! Since the hatchery tells me they shipped 2 of each kind, if it's 3 BR's that would definitely be a mistake by the hatchery, but anything's possible no doubt. 3 BRs with one being a cockerel would be a real downer after hoping for some Dominiques and Marans! =)

For the Umpteenth Time - Rock, Dom, or Marans? (or all 3)

Update - check my avatar picture to see the 3 black chicks, at present 17 days old. You can see the long tail feathers on 2 of them, and the smooth silvery rump of the third smaller one.

For the Umpteenth Time - Rock, Dom, or Marans? (or all 3)

Puzzle time... and no pictures either, since I don't have enough posts yet! Recently got my first batch of day old chicks. It included Barred Rock, Dominique, and Cuckoo Marans (2 of each, 6 total). 3 of them were DOA, so I now have 3 unidentified black chicks. They started out looking...

    Chicken Noob - no really

Hello all. Name is Richard. Never had chickens before, just got my first hatchery birds: Speckled Sussex, Dominique, Barred Rock, and Cuckoo Marans. I've enjoyed reading so many of the threads and look forward to this new adventure in chicken keeping.
