I once had a raccoon dig under a 6 foot tall fence and up through the inside of my coop. Don't know how deep the fence was but the coop was sitting along the fence about 1 foot out and it didn't take long for them to do that. I ended up putting a wood floor on the bottom of my coop.
I have a fairly large baby playpen which I have been using as a brooder for about 10 chicks. Is it ok to use the deep litter method? I just keep adding new litter everyday and stir things up a bit. Doesn't really smell that bad.
Just checked on them recently as I gave them a large bowl of water to drink. Of course they played in it and made a big ole mess. They seem fine now and are getting along sorta ok with the other chicks. I will separate them tomorrow when I get my other coop set up.
The TSC by my house (Melbourne, FL) has ducks on sale, straight run $1 each with the 6 minimum. So obviously I had to get six even though I only wanted to get like 2 only. There's 6 left at the store if anyone wants them.
Anyways, I have them in a small pen with about 10 baby chicks about 5...
I'm kinda new here, but i would make him some crumbled boiled eggs and some oats just to get him by. I got a shipment of chicks from MO in teh mail that took two days to get here and I gave them food right away. I'm sure other members will have other suggestions.
I just got my order from Cackle. I ordered a heavy barnyard sp. supposedly 12 pullets and 38 cockeral, but they didn't mark them
Anyhow, I have one odd chick that i can't identify. It looks like the legs have a bluish tint on them. Any idea of gender as well. Thanks.
