My girl is fully recovered & reintegrated back into the flock!! She allowed us to spoon feed (& water) her for several days then started showing signs of improvement...lifting head, cackling, etc. She's now rollicking around the yard like there was never anything wrong. Thanks goodness none...

Quote: Wow, I've been reading Kathy's thread & am now afraid it may be botulism. I have a compost bin that is usually covered but I've been ill myself lately (actually preggers, morning sickness) and have not replaced the cover for a few days. I originally covered it because the girls had...

    Broken Neck? Pls Help

Okay, I brought her in and felt for any bones out of place. As far as I can tell everything seems to be inline. Tried feeding her a mixture of mash, yolk, and water. She wasn't interested in the mash but took all the liquid she could get so........ We moved on to diluted pedialyte. She took...

    Broken Neck? Pls Help

I found one of my Orpingtons this evening laying down with her face on the ground. When I picked her up she was alive but limp as a rag doll and unable to lift her head. I carefully examined her & found no blood, broken skin or missing feathers. However, is is apparent that her neck is injured...

Lethargic chick, watery stools-Please help new owner

Forgot to add to last post: There is no blood in poo and the chicks haven't been fed anything but starter and water...well mostly, the first day and a half I had them on pine shavings 'til I realized they were eating them. Promptly switched to paper towles. I think that's all the info I have.

Lethargic chick, watery stools-Please help new owner

Hi there. I'm new to this site...and to raising chickens. I purchased 4 Buff Orpington chicks from my feed store 3 days ago and I'm getting concerned about one of them. She is a little smaller & lighter in color than the other 3 (not sure if that matters). She has loose, watery light brown...
