Did you ever figure out your RIRxbrown leghorns? I just hatched some. My roo is the brown leghorn. I also have some from New Hampshire reds, Dominique, silver laced Wyandotte, and others Excited to see how they turn out.
I've wondered the same about mine. I have BAs and BGs and WGs hens from a hatchery. The BAs and WGs are 1 yr old next month. My so called WGs are no bigger than the BAs. The BGs are 7 mons and not quite as big as the BAs. FYI The BAs are normal size chickens. Roughly the same as my New...
Thanks. I was thinking the questionable Dominique was a different breed but wasn't sure if coming from a hatchery it was just a genetic quirk from not breeding to a physical standard.
Both wyandottes have the same red comb so I'm hoping they are both pullets. They are so physically different...
Sorry, i tried to post several pics in my first post with no luck. Then tried to post a reply with pics-no luck. Then i got kicked off. Soooo, Ill try again. They were all born on Aug 26, 2014.
The Dominique in question is lighter, has shorter tail feathers, and what looks like a single comb...
I ordered 17 sexed chicks (16 pullets, 1 roo) from a hatchery. The roo I ordered is def a roo (a black jersey giant), but at least one of the pullets is a roo (Danish brown leghorn) and I'm questioning one of the Dominiques and the silver laced wyandottes.
What breeds would you not recommend? I planned to order from Ideal Poultry. That's where I bought my Chinese geese. I am in an extremely rural area with lots of predators. Birds are locked up tight next to my dog kennel at night and I've only lost birds to predators when they are out "grazing."...
Thank you everyone for your suggestions! Those are some beautiful roos! How about the Wyandottes either the silver laced or the Partidge. I cant tell from the google pics if the pics are actually of the breeeds
what is this guy? .
Hi, I just lost my Barred Rock Roo to a rogue Rottweiler. I've had tough first go at raising chickens as I am a former city slicker now living in the back of beyond. Now that everything is secure, I'm giving it another go and want opinions on a big, pretty Roo to complement my flock of 8-12...
