Hahaha! No hiding the eggs during the week because they are in the coop all day until a quick free range just before bedtime. On the week-ends I will need to keep an eye on them to find any sneaky presents left around the yard. ;-)
I have four chickens and would like to know the answer, too! My four are all 23 weeks old (we brought them home as day old chicks). Two light sussex and two black australorp hybrid. One australorp has been laying for two weeks. The other three are taking their time starting. I thought that...
I've experimented with a few materials for the nesting boxes. I found the straw got too wet and the nesting box floors then got wet. The wood shavings are perfect. Easy to clean, the chicken poop seems to dry out rather than getting soggy in there, and the nesting boxes are always dry and comfy...
I'm new to chicken keeping and the forum. I have two light sussex and two black australorp hybrids. Daisy, Peggy, Penny, and Ozzie. We got them as day old chicks and are counting the days until we get eggs. ;-)
Hi there!
I thought I'd share a couple of photos of Penny, my Black Australorp hybrid (with Isa Brown). I love her colours! :-)
She was 14 weeks old in the first photo.
She was 16 weeks old when this photo was taken last week.
Michelle.
Thanks for the advice! I heard a chicken "scream" in alarm yesterday and ran outside to find the magpies swooping again, but the chickens were unhurt (although huddling next to the coop).
I have two light sussex -
Daisy - named by my little girl
Peggy - named by my big girl
and two black australorp hybrids (with isa brown) -
Penny (Henny Penny) - named by me
Ozzie - named by my husband
Poor Ozzie was the only one who didn't get a "girl" name. :-)
Hello!

I'm so glad to see this thread. I was just commenting to my friends the other day that my chicks look like they're dead when they're sleeping. I keep having to check that their little bodies are moving as they breathe, because they just lay down flat wherever they are. This photo is not great -...
