I'm in England... So lots of wet weather! We decided to build a coop with lockable/fox proof run, the floor of this is hard core, with rubber matting on top, we then add chopped straw so that they have a dry area. In the day they roam in mud etc. but can have a dry option.
Hi all
I live in England and have had hens for 5years. The first flock we had were fab, but then lost some to foxes. Then we bought an enclosed fox proof run (they're only in this during dark hours, they have a huge electrified pen for the day) we then lost a couple to having a red mite...
Hi,
I've got a hen who appears egg bound (can feel the egg right near the vent) gave her a warm bath yesterday evening, she's been on her own all night in a cage with straw and water. She's drunk a lot over night. This morning she is just laying there, do I try and re bath? Do something else...
I'm in England, so no risk of some of those animals! They're not egg eating, I've checked, and I've looked everywhere for eggs, can't find any. Is there anything else that anyone can think of? Thanks for advice so far.
I have 14 chickens, different hybrid breeds, they free range from 7am - they go to bed. They are shut in a run from bed till 7am due to foxes. They get good quality feed, crumble and pellets, in the evening they get sunflower seeds, meal worms and corn (not loads) I know 2 are older and...
They free range 630am-6pm, then have an enclosed run that is roughly 2m by 6m, with perches, that according to guidelines should fit 14 birds easily! Is it not enough room?
Hi
I've got 10 chickens, who have everything they could wish for!! But they're pecking each others feathers, (heads and chest, its not a moult, this was happening before newbies arrival) they don't appear to be laying well either!
Now I know its not ideal timing, but we've taken on 3 chickens...
We had this too!
we fed scrambled egg, yoghurt, meal worms, sunflower seeds, corn, anything that would build her up! and we put powder on our birds weekly for 10weeks, then every other week.
We had to burn our house and start again. Then the new house got it, so I power washed it, and I also...
I am looking for a new coop!
MUSTS
be suitable for 14 hybrids - fairly large birds
have at least 2 nesting boxes of a decent size
have lots of roosting space
be flat pack, or no wider than a doorway!
we had a beautiful house, but it was mite infested so we had to burn it. We bought one that...
thanks all. they have been wormed regularly, so that's not an issue. I am in the UK so all they offer is Red Mite Kill, which is Diatom. I will try the links, thank you so much for your help.
I have 14 chickens, unfortunately we recently got red mites in the coop. Coop has been power washed, smothered in Diatom, and so have the chickens. everyone seemed so much bett,er egg production went up etc. Bar one chicken, she seems to be eating every now and again, she'll scratch around...
At the beginning of the year, we had to burn the chickens house due to mite infestation. We have been dusting them with diatom weekly for 2/3months, and today I notice clumps of red mites in the bloody house. I've cleaned it all out put diatom everywhere, and on the birds, and sudacream (no...
I have 14 chickens, someone is laying the occasional soft shell egg, then another lays on it, gets covered in yuk, they then get all depressed in their cleaning! So we washed a chicken (just the underneath!h the other day, and she seems so much happier. But in doing this we noticed a few in our...
What an earth is this?!?!
Story:
We had red mites, house burnt, chickens de mited weekly for 6weeks. Wormed 4weeks ago. Lost some weight, last night roosting early, but does eat and seem ok, don't think she is laying, had a yucky underneath, but not to do with poo, have washed seems ok...
We think this is scaly leg mite?
We had horrific red mite infestation, burnt house, have been de miting house and chickens weekly!!! And seem to have conquered that. Now this... Only on one out of 14. ???
