I was so happy when I heard the news! We've been able to have our chickens because we've been here for 30+ years, but we have friends who were putting up with a lot of crap trying to get theirs.... hopefully now that they've updated the ordinances, there will be less problems.
Hey, would you mind letting me know how that went? I know the meeting on Thursday was a "study session" and closed to comment, but I'm very interested to hear what was said. Unfortunately, being in Pullman for school makes it impossible for me to attend these meetings.
I'd also love to hear...
This is awesome. I love watching projects evolve and grow from the initial concept sketches to the finished product. Thank you very much for sharing! Definitely subscribing.
Thank you both for your replies!
Rebelcowboy, you have awesome info on your BYC page and on your website! I'm sure I'll be using them as a reference when I build my own bator.
I love browsing through the homemade incubator section of BYC, and I'm hoping I'll be able to make a homemade bator with my younger sisters soon as a science project. There are some really amazing pages on there, but most of the pages are missing critical information: their hatch rates!
It...
Thank you for the info, Imp! It sounds like it's just a wart, I have checked repeatedly to see if there is any evidence of mites, and nothing is sending up any red flags. Other than the beak, everything looks as it should.

I'm going to try to keep him for as long as I can... I don't think anyone in this area is going to want a roo right now for any reason other than eating them. I'm going to get working on the little coop inside the garage.... I already know that someone in our neighborhood has a rooster...
The second I saw the saddle feathers, I knew it had to be a roo. He's my favorite, though, so I didn't want it to be true. We are allowed to keep roosters (we're grandfathered in) but I'm really worried about what the neighbors are going to be like when he starts crowing.
Guess it's time to...
My light brahma has had a wart or growth on his (her ) beak for as long as I can remember. There are no other symptoms or obvious signs of sickness. Is this just something fairly harmless that I don't need to worry about? Or is there something specific that I need to be checking for?
A couple of weeks ago my father stared at my Light Brahma hen, Harriet, and bluntly stated "Congrats, you have a rooster." I was indignant. My Harriet? A roo?! No. "She's just bigger than the other girls because she's a light brahma. And she's bossy because she's at the top of the pecking order...
Those are the coops I figured you were looking for! I LOVE storybook architecture! There are plans for a storybook playhouse on ebay that I think would make an adorable coop. The seller's store is currently sold out of plans, but you can see pictures of the finished playhouse in 2 different...

I saw that ad today and came to BYC to check what other people had to say about the 1266 before calling him. Looks like you beat me to it!
Have fun with it and let us know how it works for you!
Congrats on haggling him down even lower. I can't wait to see the chicks you hatch out!

Have they taken you over again PC?
No way. Those are some ugly silkies. Great meat birds.
That made me laugh so loud I woke up my sister. Thanks for the awesome quote.
And I agree, the "silkie" they have on that site looks horrid.
I don't know if anyone has a fact sheet available online, I bet someone on here has made one, though.
The form idea sounds great! I'm sure there are many egg sellers who would appreciate having an F.A.Q. collection available.
I love Jaerhons. I hope I can add one or two to my flock at some point.
Your chickens are lovely, I'm glad you got them back! Sorry about your coop, the snow was nuts over here (Spokane) over the winter, too.
It's nice to see another Washingtonian, though you're on the other side of the state. Seems most of the Washingtonians on here are from the western side. I feel lonely over here.
