Bird nest with babies fell out of tree

Wow, a June bug just flew into my house, I swatted it, tore it into little pieces and fed them to the baby birds, on the ends of toothpicks, and all three eagerly gobbled them up! Thanks for the info, Chicks4kids. How do I teach them to eat before they fly away? I could confine them to a dog...

Bird nest with babies fell out of tree

I did put the nest back in the tree, had to use tupperware and duct tape because there was no place I could reach that would hold it otherwise. The parents didn't come back by dark and now it's pouring down rain. Should I try to put it back in the tree again tomorrow? I'll Google for a nature...

Bird nest with babies fell out of tree

This bird nest was knocked out of a pine tree this evening by my chickens attempting to roost in the tree. I found three babies on the ground near it that seem to be OK. Does anyone have any idea what kind of birds they are and whether it might be possible for me to raise them and then turn...

    Identification methods

Thanks for all the info. Is there a thread with instructions for using food coloring to mark them? I'll get some double sided velcro and some zip ties just to have around and see what works best for me. If I need to cut zip ties off I have some suture removal scissors similar to these...

    Identification methods

Thanks. I have some twist ties but no zip ties. Is this anything like you meant with Velcro? I have these newly hatched chicks, some of which I hope are purebred Barred Rocks and I really want a son of my rooster who died just before I started incubating these eggs. These three mostly...

Help! Hen died today...safe to eat?

Quote: I don't see anything wrong with road kill, usually get a deer or two a year that way. I know what killed it, not disease, and only pick them up very fresh. No reason to let that go to waste.

after butchering, what about the leftovers

I agree with using it for dog food if possible. Some people who are into "raw feeding" their dogs put ads on Craigslist asking for stuff like this and many other raw animal parts. You could put an ad there and probably find someone who would like to come pick it up.

Barred Rock x Dark Cornish crosses

Hi. Recently my favorite rooster, a Barred Rock, passed away, leaving me without a male of that breed and I would really like to keep his bloodlines going. So I gathered up 42 eggs over the next few days and put them in my incubator, hoping to get a replacement for him. The hens they are from...
