Feeding 8 week old grower chicks

Hi all, Sorry but I don't have time to scroll through the forum to find the answer I'm after, so was wondering if anybody can help me. I've 8 8 week-old Light Sussex chicks I'm rearing on rearer pellets and although I feed them ad lib I was just wondering out of interest how much an 8-week-old...

    Split wing?

They won't be shown, so as I said I'm not bothered about it, I was more curious as to whether this is what you'd be seeing if you were looking for split wing. So you'd be missing a feather when counting then if the chook did have split wing? Thank you for your reply, I appreciate it :).

    Split wing?

Hi, I've just been inspecting my little 8 week old Orpingtons and think one may have split wing. Can anybody please advise? It doesn't matter as the person I'm raising them for wouldn't be too bothered if it did have split wing, I'm just curious more than anything. Thanks for any comments :).

Little Frizzle bantam with bald neck and head and underside. :(

Hi all, At my work we have two little frizzle bantams; a cock and a hen. I'm not entirely sure how old they are (they were there before I started and were rescued). I've noticed with the little hen that she has big bald patches on the back of her head and down her neck, and she's bald on her...

Worming chickens with Flubenvet 1% Medicated Premixture

Hi all, I'm due to worm our little ones at work with some Flubenvet 1% Medicated Premixture and was wondering how I can go about it so that they will eat all of their allocated feed and won't waste any? We've three adult Dutch bantams needing it and two 9 week old Light Sussex chickens. How...

My chicks aren't quite right... can anybody please help?

Hiya, thanks for the lovely reply :). They're doing loads better now, thank you :D. Eating well and the worst one has picked up too. They only have a swollen crop in the afternoon, quite late, so I'm thinking maybe it's just a result of gorging throughout the day? We did give them a short course...

My chicks aren't quite right... can anybody please help?

Hello all, was wondering if anybody could please help me... I'd be dead grateful if you can! The chicks at my work are now 6 weeks old. Growing fast! They have been exposed to outdoors but had a bit of a scare with an escaped ferret and unfortunately we lost a few :'(. They've been brought...

Permaculture - using Bantams on veg plots

Oh that's lovely, loads of stuff :). Thank you!

    Please remind me!!!

We regularly de-worm them using Flubenvet medicated feed anyway, though I think we are looking to change. I heard apple cider vinegar helps keep them at bay in the meantime, by altering the pH in the gut slightly, but am aware that it's not to be relied on as a regular de-wormer. Was an...

    Please remind me!!!

Hello, Just a few quick questions I have for quick answers please? - how often should I dust my chooks with diatom powder to prevent lice? And: - Apple Cider Vinegar - 25mls for 1l of water over 7 days every month to keep worms in check (as well as normal wormer of course)... am I...

    Hen grit for chicks?

Thank you, I realised that maybe I was getting too caught up in treating them and that it shouldn't become a habit. They are growing so fast though and coming along really well :D. Thanks for the info everyone :)

Permaculture - using Bantams on veg plots

Hiya, At my work we have plenty of veg patches and three bantams currently in a smaller coop than the larger free-rangers. I was wondering about putting the Bantams to use on the veg patches as fertiliser and for bug-picking (enrichment for them too!) and was wondering if anybody had any good...

    Hen grit for chicks?

Thanks everyone! I was worrying about choking hazards too but it hasn't got huge bits in it that will be of any harm. It was mostly the calcium content that was worrying me. It's reassuring to know to that at least they will know what is harmful to them and what is safe. Ok, I've only a small...

    Hen grit for chicks?

Hi all, We have recently hatched 12 mixed chicks at my place of work and are doing very well with them so far. They are 3 weeks of age and I have started putting some enrichment into their housing - bread, dandelion leaves, cabbage leaves etc. Thanks to a thread recently started on here, I...
