    Introducing juvenilles to adult chickens

I have 3 6 wk old chickens that are ready to go outside. I put two of them out last night, and the adults didn't kill them or peck them (ha ha), so I'll put the third out today. My question is, what do you do about food/grit. The juvenilles aren't ready for layer feed or oyster shell, but my...

    Chicken diarrhea

Hi, I took in an older (unsure how old) red sex link to keep my remaining Australorp company after a fox killed my 3 other chickens. She came with scaly leg mites, which are nearly gone after 1 month of treatment. However, she is having soft stools since she arrived. I treated her twice with...

First snow today; Chickens going crazy.

Are chickens smart enough to go back in the coop/run if it's cold/snowy/windy? This is their first winter. I tried to corral them back into the coop but they all ran away. They are huddled under the porch, which provides a bit of protection. I can continue chasing them if needed?

They just started laying yesterday, and the boxes where I found eggs were nearly empty of shavings (they'd scratched it into the center of the coop). One of the eggs was slightly cracked, probably from...

In my zone (R40), backyard chickens are allowed, but their coop must be at least 40' from the front property line, 20' from side, and 40' from rear. I was...

Anyone have tips on first night of baby chicks in brooder

I am currently researching before I commit to raising chickens (I'm pretty well sold), but one of my biggest concerns is the early weeks. My family is out of the house for 10 hours per day some days and I'm worried about leaving the chicks for that long. I could potentially be home for the first...
