With the condition of her back, it looks like she is getting too much attention from a rooster. It could be a spur injury. I would suggest that you keep her separated from the other birds and keep the wound as clean as you can. If you can find a way to close the wound some, that would help too...
I ordered chicks from MPC in late February 2020 for the March 2nd hatching. All pullets, 3 Buff Orpingtons and 5 Easter Eggers of hatchery choice. They arrived on time, super well packed and all were very vigorous and healthy. So far they all seem to be female. While the cost was a little bit...
Congrats! The babies are sooo cute. Give the others a little time. I usually give the eggs a good sniffing if i suspect that something is wrong. If I detect an odor I get rid of the egg.
I am hoping that you have chicks by now. If not yet add some water to get the humidity up and hope for the best. After the pip if they havent hatched in 15-18 hours you may need to give a little, minor help. But that is tricky business. Just remove small pieces of the shell at a time and STOP at...
Fingers crossed for your hatch! The chick I hatched is doing great, 1 week old today. The other 8 chicks I ordered from the hatchery all arrived safely and are doing great as well. The brownish one in the foreground is the one I hatched.
It looks like you have decent size air cells in those eggs. If they get too big the baby may be shrink wrapped in the membrane and have trouble hatching. I don't candle that often. I try to keep it to day 10 and 18. When I do candle on day 18 I use a pencil to mark a circle where the air cell...
The air cell in my egg looked like day 14 on that chart when it went into lockdown. I have 2 more eggs in the incubator that are on day 10. I put a couple in late when I tossed the other eggs. I also ordered 8, day old chicks that should ship today.
The single surviving egg from my hatch is moving around today, expecting it to pip anytime now. It looks like I may get a leap year baby. :celebrate:celebrate
Check the belly area behind her legs. Is it soft and pliable or swollen, firm and hard. I had a few birds that had fluid build up in their abdomen, a condition called ascites. The fluid will build up until they suffocate. This is caused by a disease of some internal organs. If this is the case...
Here in Louisiana, my humidity is normally about 35% in a dry incubator all the time. So I didn't have to add any water till lockdown. My single egg didn't pip yet, when I looked at the calendar I realized that hatch day should be Friday or Saturday...
Is she eating? Does her Brest feel meatless and bony? I had some that just stopped eating and I didn't notice until they were noticeably weak and didn't perch in the evening. I managed to get some of them eating again with irresistible treats such as scrambled egg, watermelon, cantaloupe, meal...

Since your eggs were refrigerated, it is possible that the non developing eggs were male and didn't survive the cold. Anxious to hear what sex your developing eggs turn out to be. I started out with a dozen refrigerated eggs also. Had to toss 11 of them, expecting the remaining...

Keep us posted on your hatch results using previously refrigerated eggs. I read somewhere that storing the eggs at around 40 degrees for up to a week will kill the male embryos and those eggs wont develop. I did this for my last hatch and only got 1 roo. I am thinking that he was...
This morning there was more odor in the incubator. I candled all the older eggs and tossed them. The newer batch hasn't been in long enough to start stinking yet. This is only day 3 for them. Congrats on the new babies Chick Chick.
