Does anyone know what breed this is? I'm thinking maybe a silkie/ Cochin mix? I really have no idea though. Sorry I don't have a better picture.

    Silkie thread!

They are looking better, although the littlest was still a little weak this morning. I haven't been home since then so I hope she is still doing okay, she was playing with the others and eating/drinking she just was a little wobbly.

    Silkie thread!

I didn't do any assisting, but I think the momma did. She was pecking at the ones that we're getting ready to hatch. They aren't full bread silkie, they are part Rodeisland red. Could that have something to do with it?

    Candleing

Also when I ran my incubator before putting eggs in I found the therm to be about 2-4 degrees off so I have one inside the incubator as well. I've adjusted the temp to what it would need to be to have the correct temp.

    Mystery eggs

Thanks! I think I understand what's happening. I had noticed a bit of calcium build up on eggs before. All my hens lay in the same place,( not sure why) so they probably have scratched off the calcium leaving the hole. I guess I will try gathering the eggs more often in the day and see if it...

    Mystery eggs

Could be a few things. Sometimes, if a tiny spot of excess calcium deposits on the surface and is scraped away, it will leave a hole to the membrane. It's not too much calcium, just the way it deposits on the egg. [/quote Okay thanks! Are they safe to eat then?

I have had two hens go broody- 1 had wonderful results- the other not so much. Wilma hatched 5 eggs (1 was a dud). She left the nest 2 times, that I saw. She lost tons of weight. When the chicks hatched she took excellent care of them- better than I ever could. She taught them EVERYTHING. I...
