Blue English Orpington, anyone want to take a guess? :)

Thought I would update this. Frank is definitely a Frank and not a Francine. Huge bummer. He started crowing at about 16 weeks. He was GIGANTIC and so fluffy! Seeing him run across the yard was the highlight of day, because he was so awkward. :) I'm going to try again next year!

12 week old light brahma, boy or girl?

Yay! I hope you guys are right, and thank you so much for your opinions. I really appreciate it! :)

Which breeds did you wish you got?

This is my first year with chickens. I have a cuckoo marans, a chocolate orpington, a light brahma, a rhodebar (who will theoretically lay olive eggs), a cream legbar, and a blue orpington. My blue orp is a roo, so he has to go since I can't have roosters. :( I'm SO incredibly sad, because that...

12 week old light brahma, boy or girl?

Thank you, for the guess and the compliments! I think she (?) is so pretty, and I love the big fluffy thighs. :) If it weren't for the comb I probably wouldn't even be questioning it. This chick feathered early, and has stopped sparring with everyone all the time (no more than my other chicks...

12 week old light brahma, boy or girl?

Hi all! I posted when this chick was about 4 weeks old, but I'm still stumped. Lightning Speed is 12 weeks old today. Any brahma experts who could weigh in? S/he does have 3 rows of peas, but it's not really sticking up from the head like a lot of males I've seen of this age with pea combs. If...

Blue English Orpington, anyone want to take a guess? :)

Here's just a quickie of Frank's face. 8.5 weeks now, and still not confident. However, I'm still leaning towards boy.

    grannys gone and done it

Oh my gosh, camping!! I'm so sorry! Wow that is crazy, a heart attack maybe? I'm so sorry again, it's so hard. Big hugs.

Blue English Orpington, anyone want to take a guess? :)

Ah thanks for this! Good to know. :) Here are some updated photos. Frank is about 6.5 weeks old now. I'm still not confident enough to rehome him. Waddles are a little pink but not bright or anything. Comb is still not pink except at the base, but so are my other pullets. His feathers are...

    grannys gone and done it

That is absolutely terrifying!!!!!! I am SO glad that he is okay. I get scared and mad, too. I cry and scream at them at the same time, lol. So thankful that daddy got there in time. One time we were at a place kind of like that, there's a little row of businesses along a riverfront road (the...

    Blue Orpington

I got my blue from Papa's Poultry, he's in Northern California, and he does ship. :) Sadly I think we have a boy, but time will tell. It's only sad because I can't keep a rooster. :(

Loud brown bantam. Only quiet when held.

Could be simply a needy chick, or it could be am indication of a problem. I see she has friends, so she's not lonely, how is her poop? Any pasty butt? Eating and drinking okay? Not acting lethargic? Brooder a good temp?

    grannys gone and done it

Seriously guys, my house looks like something from a documentary. I keep telling dh that if anyone saw it they would have the kids taken away. Gotta get this under control, lol! One of my cats is not doing well. She's losing a lot of weight. Other than that she is acting 100% normal, but she...

    grannys gone and done it

Sorry I've been MIA, all. Everyone in my house keeps getting sick, including me, and we all know that when mama is sick nothing gets done. Enola congratulations on the new grandbabe!!! She is precious. Makes my ovaries hurt with all that new baby cuteness. ;) Sounds like the other babe has an...

    Sacramento County

All of the western feed stores get their chicks on Thursdays. They don't all get chicks though, I know roseville doesn't get chicks, and there was one other store that doesn't get them but I can't remember which one. I'll have to go and check out Lee's too, do you remember if they had dark...

please help me determine the gender of my chicks

Agree with this. Also I'm not convinced on your Ameraucana. The comb looks rather wide, can you post a clearer, closer photo of the comb? :)

HELP, What sex are these birds?

Can you just get some more girls for them? Or is that not an option? Not to say you still might not want 3 boys, but I'm pretty sure (assuming I could have roosters where I live) that my solution would be to get about 20 more hens. LOL :)

Golden Cuckoo Marans Chick very weak, probably dying.

What!!! Holy cow! Well, I mean that's great news, but how weird, haha! :) I am SO happy to hear that he's doing well today, woohoo!!!

Golden Cuckoo Marans Chick very weak, probably dying.

Oh poor thing. :( i don't think botulism is all that common, is it? Do the symptoms match up, do you think? That is crazy that the corid was $100!! I have the liquid kind and it was something like $22. If you lived close by I would bring you some. I'm going to research botulism in the morning...
