I have a bantam hen that apparently got poked by something and she has a pocket of pus that developed between her eye and beak. I have been putting hot compresses on it and antibiotic ointment. Should I let the pocket pop and drain on it's own or should it lance it and apply antibiotic ointment...
They do have their own fenced area, food and water, inside the chicken coop. I had turned their light off but will turn it back on for a couple more weeks. Thanks!
Okay, thanks. They do have a separate pen inside the chicken coop but I had turned off the light figuring they were okay since they had their feathers. I will turn their red lamp back on for another couple of weeks. Thanks for replying!
Hi everyone. My Mottled Java hen hatched 4 Java/Bantam cross chicks 5 weeks ago. She took very good care of them, protected them from the rest of the flock (even though the other chickens could have cared less about the newcomers) until about 1-1/2 weeks ago. She suddenly turned on the chicks...
We have had ducks for several years and have yet to have them sit on their own eggs (we have Rouen and they are not particularly broody). I have never used an electric incubator, always my own hens. Since our ducks have never wanted to sit on their own eggs and I have a very broody Bantam hen, I...
It actually went very well. None of the other chickens bothered them except our Barred Rock hen and mama Java took care of that real quick! Thank for your information and good wishes.
She does protect them from me when I change their food and water but wasn't sure if the rooster would be a problem. He is a Bantam and usually calm but when someone is in the yard that normally isn't he goes nuts. We were going to try putting them all together today anyway but I wasn't sure...
Hello. I have 4 mottled Java chicks that I kept separated from the rest of our birds (separate pen with chicken wire so the other chickens can see them but not get to them). They have their feathers now at 4 weeks old. At what point should I let them run with the rest of the birds? Mama Java is...
Good afternoon everyone. Our Bantam hen successfully hatched 3 Rouen ducklings for us yesterday, what a good mother! She is taking good care of them and is very protective. They pipped at around 6 AM and were completely hatched by 8 PM. From what I have seen on other threads, it can take quite a...
Good morning. I have a Bantam hen sitting on 4 duck eggs (our Rouen hens were not interested so she took over). They pipped this morning and I can hear the ducklings "talking" (cute!). I noticed the hen pecking on one of the eggs. Is this normal behavior? I know it can take quite a while for the...
Hello everyone. I have come to this site many times in search of information so decided to join. I have 4 Rouen ducks (3 hens, 1 drake), 1 very broody Bantam hen (currently sitting on 4 duck eggs as the duck hens are not interested), 1 Bantam rooster, 1 Barred Rock hen, 1 Buckeye hen, and 2...
