Thanks for the response Caveman. I have 15 hens total and so does my friend. I have some older hens in with my flock that are still laying (The ones that aren't molting, that is) and a few younger black copper marass that should be laying about now too. I believe the marans should be about 7ish...
A friend and I split a group of female EE chicks back in April, making them about 8 months old now. My friend's group of hens are laying well and they are getting about a dozen eggs a day from 15 hens for about a month or more now. Where as I am only getting 1 or 2 every few days. What do think...

I've been thinking about posting some updated pictures of them up here. I'll try to take and post some pictures on Wednesday. I'm out of town right now. But I would like to see what y'all think about them now. I'm not sure if I can tell the difference from 1, 2, and 4 now though but...
Ok. I was wondering how you set the timer to make sure it's okay with the days getting longer in the spring or shorter in the fall. I assume you just make sure that its set so they'll have plenty of time to back into the coop all year long.
Has anyone on here use the Dawn Till Dusk automatic door opener? I've noticed it reasonable price and operates from a light sensor instead of a timer, which I'd prefer. I've just been wondering what others thought about it and is it possible to mount in inside the coop? I've seen great reviews...
I was hoping for 1 roo out of this group of chicks but it looks like I'm getting a lot more than I wanted. Anymore guesses? I'm going to try to more pics in a couple weeks to see if it'll be more obvious.
Can I get some help sexing these four BCMs? I'm worried 3 of them might be roos. Thanks in advance!
#1 Cockerel?
#2 Cockerel?
#3 Pullet?
#4 very unsure but leaning toward cockerel
Yup. Blooie, mine looks exactly like yours. Ugh. Oh well. Its so weird how with certain breeds you can tell what sex they are much younger then others.
I have a group of 17 four week old chick. Three of those chicks were supposed to be buff Orpington Pullets. Well I believe I could possibly have a roo on my hands. One of the BOs has a much bigger and reader comb and you can see his red waddles coming out too. I have attached a picture to...
Yeah its definitely not cheap. I completely understand how you feel. I just finished wrapping my run with it and it definitely took a big chunk of my budget for my coop and run, but I figured it'll be worth it when my chickens need to be in the run and I can't make it home to close the coop...
