    Ground Covering for Outdoor Run?

I agree with the DLM. We have about 50 chickens in a very large run. The ground is a combo of sand, clay and some actual decent dirt. We throw everything in there. Grass clippings are my favorite. They break down quickly and smell fantastic! I also like to get horse bedding pellets and wet...

    Day 7 of incubation

I was wondering if that's what it could be. They were not shipped. They came from 30 feet out my back door. Is there a possibility they may still hatch?

    Day 7 of incubation

Can anyone tell me if this is ok or a sign of some issue? We have veining. It's almost in the shape of a football helmet, where it's lower on the back side of the egg. Thanks!

    Day 7 of incubation

Yes, there are blood vessels but most of the eggs are evenly developed all the way around. I'm not sure why the undeveloped area dips up on this one side?

    Cream Legbar Pictures

I don't have a good side shot with me now, but I will try to get one for you. They do look very much alike! We hatched her back in October. She's from our first hatch ever. My original birds came from a lady here in East Texas who had Greenfire lines.

    Swollen eye

I think I may grab some Tylan just in case and see how she does before treating. I haven't noticed any respiratory issues so I'm holding out hope that is it just an injury with the eye? Thank you for your responses!

    Swollen eye

I have bactracillin G. Will that help? If it's a sinus infection I'm assuming it's contagious?

    Swollen eye

I have a hen with a swollen eye and one crusty black spot on her beak under her nasal passage. I have not noticed any drainage or other symptoms. She's separated and we put a warm cloth on her eye to open it and flushed with saline. We also put a dab of neosporin on it. Can anyone tell me what...

    Chick with raspy voice

Thank you for your input. I did actually consider that, but I've just never actually heard one sound like that before. I hope she's ok.

    Chick with raspy voice

They are eating medicated chick starter. They do have chick grit and have had a few dried mealworms and whatever little plants they have picked at in their run.

    Chick with raspy voice

I went out to check on the chicks this morning. This little girl is about 9 weeks old and she has lost her voice? No drainage or anything. We did get a bit of a cold snap, but she seems to be doing fine other than her voice. Any ideas?

No eggs for at least 3 weeks

Gotcha! I guess it just never occurred to me to switch during molt? I will grab some grower or all flock or whatever I can find and get them on that until they are laying again. thank you!

No eggs for at least 3 weeks

I fed my littles chick starter until they started laying and then I put everyone together and they are all on layer feed. Should I switch them to something higher protein for now? I knew not to feed them layer too soon, but they have all been laying, we just had a sudden halt in production here.
