Considering adding a single chick into my flock. Has anyone ever just put a newborn, few day old chick into their brooder box for a broody hen to raise? Would she accept it as her own and care for it?
I am fairly sure its a welsummer as I ordered one and a blue laced wyandotte and one chick died. Doesn’t look like a wyandotte to me but I’ve been wrong before!
They hatched back in May, so they have only been laying since early fall. We live in Northwest Colorado. So yeah, it’s cold. I have a heater on when its below freezing.
Thanks! I am not sure if she is laying, that’s why I stared wondering if it was a rooster. We have 7 assorted chickens and only get max 4 eggs a day. I know some breeds don’t lay everyday but geez!
Hi all! My beautiful only 3.5 month old LO was dead on the ground in the run over the weekend. No obvious wounds. Any idea why she would ahve died? We have 13 other birds. TIA!
Hello, we ordered a “surprise mix“ and have all but three identified. Can anyone help me identify these chicken breeds? The black one was killed by a fox or coyote and I’d like to replace it. She was a beautiful pure black with blue sheen. Very striking. TIA!
Noticed this on my Americana and don't know how to treat? Will it go away on its own? Is it life threatening? Looks like she has a grey beard. Any suggestions helpful.
