another update... the chick that I removed from the egg when I pulled the plug on the bator is still with me. I did not think he was gonna be here this long cause he was bleeding. Several drops for sure and I know he doesnt have a lot. Well I am gonna give the lil guy the benefit of the doubt...
well I support the use of 1 inch mesh chicken wire with the addition of a thing we folks down south call electric fence wire. You can usually get a decent roll of wire, bout 1/4 miles worth for less than 20 bucks. Insulators can many time be bought on sale too. They are cheap anyway and most...
ok here are a few of them, I think the ones with the stripes and puffy cheeks are the easter egger mutts, I had 6 blue eggs and they all hatched. the first one is one of the buff colored chicks. they will grow up and just have to be whatever they are I guess.
Lách Cnoc Farm :
what kind of mutts are the buff colored ones? they're super cute
He had some BO hens in his barn and 2 red roosters. One red rooster was quite large and had green and black wing feathers with a rose comb. The other red rooster had mixed colors on his wings too but was...
another update... I just pulled the plug on what was left. The bator smells rotton... I mean bad rotton. I noticed it this morning when I pulled the 29 chicks but man it has gotton worse. Too much for my nose anyway. I candled the 4 eggs left that never pipped. If you remember from my...
I dont know chickenbike. I was mainly worried due to the large amount of chicks I had in the bator. 29 chicks are consuming lots of oxygen, exhaling lots of humidity, and werent seeming to dry out. I guess the pros are on vacation. I just took a chance. I wouldn't know what to do in your...
here is a pic of the chicks in a temporary holding facility. At least till they get dried out and the weather outside gets better enough for me to get my brooder going for them. If the weather dont break I'll just put them in the old dog kennel like I did the others. I know they are mutts but...
Thanks for the reply walkswithdog.
I think I will tell my friend he needs a new wafer. I wont be hatching with this bator again but in conclusion I can not complain much about it cause I do have chicks. I would definately recommend the Hovabator 1602 to anyone on a budget. And I would...
good luck I hope your plan works out. I am afraid if I open the bator I will risk the unhatched chicks and am worried that the hatched chicks will hurt the unhatched chicks... I will say that so far the ones that are hatched seem to be doing well. They are playing kickball with eggs anyway...
vortec, your turner will generate added heat from the turner motor. I would say to go ahead and turn it on and allow it to be up and running as you stabilize your bator.
Good luck and I wish you a successful hatch man,
Wes
Ok a new observation. Seems a pipped egg don't need to be zipped for the chick to come out. All it needs is 3 or 4 other chicks to be playing kickball with it. Poor lil chick, seems like a hell of a way to be hatched. Then they stood on his head Hope he's gonna be ok. These lil guys seem...
Hi, working on my first hatch and I have a few questions. Perhaps I shoulda asked my questions earlier but I did think I had gathered enough information from this site and some others to do this on my own without asking...
Ok first of all I will give background info on what I have done so far...
...and to think...many people don't believe in conspiracies. Yet here we have one(MANY). My wife hates my birds. And you guys conspire against your husbands to have more. A short time ago I got some eggs from a friend of mine to hatch. I have never hatched any eggs before. I was gonna use...
yea I believe they may be gold sex links. As they get older they are starting to darken up a bit, possibly red sex links too. They seem to be much more docile than my RIR chicks that are close to the same age. I still like them anyway. I like them all even the new chicks I got today. Guess...
Oh yea... to add info on the original picture... the little yellow chicks are starting to grow fast now... I am sure they are NOT bantams as I had originally thought.
I may post newer pics of them later if anyone would like to see.

Sorry bout the delay. I have been busy building a new chickenyard for my chicks. They are growing up fast. And.... I just got 6 more today from TSC. I don't know what they are for sure but I beleive they might just be Barred Rocks. I got them cause...
um ok I gotta reply on this thread now as I am a certified country boy-or possibly redneck as my friends say even though I deny it. ALL fertile eggs have rooster bullets in them NUFF SAID ok!!! After you have seen these eggs you will definately know which ones are which. In the case of...
