Eggs are coming...Hubby's gonna be mad

...and to think...many people don't believe in conspiracies. Yet here we have one(MANY). My wife hates my birds. And you guys conspire against your husbands to have more. A short time ago I got some eggs from a friend of mine to hatch. I have never hatched any eggs before. I was gonna use the bator I borrowed from someone else. But I borrowed his 1602 that he got on the cheap and never used. I work and have to commute so I decided to buy a turner for it. So I have a borrowed bator(2 actually), my own turner, eggs with an unknown history in said bator, and no experience. My wife hates my birds and don't care much more for me. Her pets have already killed several of my other recently acquired chickens yet it is my fault(I haven't figured this out yet). Just waitin for her retriever to get another one of my birds and I am gonna...anyway... I am a reasonable husband married to an unreasonable wife so I think you guys got it made...

My best wishes on your hatches... one day I will have the farm and the lil eco-system I have always wanted even if I have to do it by myself.

Wes

Edit-- page4 ownage... for all the good it is LOL

My DH doen't stand a chance when I am ready for new critters. I really think he loves it he just has to voice some reason sometimes. I would have the bator full and the pastures and the coops and the hoouse full of animals if it were not for my "voice of reason" and I am thankful for him.

Im still trying to convince my husband I should buy the used Sportsman I found. This would be my first incubator. He wants me to buy the $150 3 egg bator so he can limit me on animals. Then upgrade later.
"I wont have to ever upgrade if I buy this one hun..."

Funny, in my household, my wife is the one that gets irritated when the BBT shows up with those little boxes with "fragile - eggs inside" on it. My kids (girl 8 and boy 4) just built a 40x24x24 brooder for the new chicks. The chicks went in last night and look quite happy today. I swear they have doubled in size in three days!

My husband said the other day "Do you think that I don't hear you getting up in the middle of the night to stare at those eggs?"

He's a good sport though- we live in the middle of nowhere- the chickens keep me busy, and happy! And the eggs I sell pay for the kids school lunches, so it's a wash.

My DW of 33years just doesnt get it. We both grew up on a farm with chickens, cows, pigs, dogs and cats. I want more chicks, she says we have enough, She will get over it, I hope! I have found that as long as I meet her requirements, I can pretty much have what ever I want. Her biggest requirement is No chickens running loose to get in Her flower beds or garden. My biggest ace in the hole to getting more birds is GRANDKIDS!! They love to run down to the henhouse and gather the eggs and look at the baby chicks. Last week I started telling DW that we really ought to get a incubator so the "GRANDKIDS" can try hatching out a few of their own. Worked like a charm! I orded the brinea eco 20 yesterday.

This in itself poses another problem, how to convice her I really need to buy those Wellies that I am conspireing to get this weekend. I can hear her now, we just ordered a incubator, cant we just hatch our own. Time to put on the thinking cap. I can think better while I build the new coop.

LOL--I used that logic and got my sportsman!! Its on its way here. My problem is which eggs to buy(at least until my pullets and roos grow up). I'm currently at 60+ chickens, but they are still growing so don't take up much space. I figure I have to get more while they are little so they won't look like so many!!

I thought i wold update my last post a little.
When I said my wife just doesnt get it, I may have been wrong about that

I will explain.

I told the LW about wanting the Welsummer chicks. At first she just rolled her eyes. Since we had to go to Tn to pick them up I asked her if she wanted to ride along, of course the answer was yes, (I think she was afraid I would get carried away and get to many chicks)

. Well we arived at Poultrylady's home and went to look at the chicks and mother flock. I got out the big rubbermaid container I brought to carry the chick home in and we started picking out chicks. My original plan was to get 20 little wellies, but!!! DW decided she wanted a few coocoo marans, so we got five of those too.

, Then Poultylady offed a few freebies and the the LW picked up three SLW chicks. At least I think thats what they are supposed to be. What started out as a trip to get 20 chicks turned into 28 instead. While driving home, I asked the LW why she decided to get exra chicks, her reply was she just couldnt resist. I think I might have created a monster. Of course she also said she hoped I didnt get her more than she could take care of. ??? Someone please explain to me how going from 20 chicks to 28 is my fault.

Well, Muddstopper, with any addiction, you have to blame someone at first. She is just begining to understand how you just can't have enough chickens!
