Hello! I want to share a picture taken the other day. My niece's 3rd birthday party was on Saturday, and I made this ripple blanket for her. It seems like she enjoys it!
Craig's List is a good idea. You should have some luck there. Post something in your local feed store or wherever you buy your feed. You will be able to get homes for them somehow! If not, try to find a farmer.
Good luck with your first chicks! They are a lot of fun, so enjoy!
I was wondering that about the black chicks - the red feathers. They were very skittish when we first got them. Today was the first day I got into the coop with them, and they calmed down quite a bit. I think with a little work, they will be pretty tame.
The barred chicks are definitely skittish!
Hello, everyone!
I had chickens and turkeys several years ago, but I had to re-home all of them due to my neighbors not liking my roosters. The code enforcement guy made us get rid of them.
However, I have been going through a rough time in my life. I have suffered from depression, but this...
My husband bought these chicks but I am not sure what breed they are. There are 4 black ones and their feathers have a green and purple sheen to them. There are also 2 that may be Barred Rocks?
Hello!
I joined BYC back in 2009, but had to get rid of my too-large flock (I got carried away...)
I have been battling depression, and my husband told me he thought I should get a few hens again, because they were the one hobby that I truly loved... well, until I learned how to crochet...
Hello, everyone! It's been ages since I've posted on here. I had to get rid of all my chickens and turkeys a few years ago. I got carried away, and got in trouble with the neighbors and code enforcement officer.
I've been having problems lately, and my husband told me I can get 3 or 4 hens...
I haven't canned in TWO long years. So today is the day - I have a beet patch that needs picking, and 2 brand new cases of jars just begging to be opened. Look out pressure cooker, here comes Momma!
The next question is, what to plant next in the bare patch of soil I'll have... Hmmm, oh the...
hollymh, those are awesome pictures!!!
My garden is doing very well. We have a "wild" rabbit that is living in our gardens. We can get within 2 feet of him, so my daughter has named him "tomato". I don't mind a nibble here and there, but geez! I have NO lettuce, even after planting it twice...
I have 4 BBB girls, but they are only a few months old. Mine have more "ticking" on their feathers, but then again they are still very young. I didn't realize how much the family would fall in love with these ladies, and wish they weren't broad breasted and "only" bronze.
I was just out in my garden, and I'm loving how much growth I see already.
Does anyone here use the vertical trellis for tomatoes and/or squash, and if you do could you please share a picture? I am trouble imagining how to prune them to work with the vertical gardening. DH doesn't know it yet...

I think you can slice it thin and steam it, or slice it thin and eat it raw. It's in the cabbage family. It was $1.15 for a 4 pack, so I wanted to try it! I am so very lucky to have come across this Mennonite greenhouse on my way home from work. You can buy single plants for 50 cents...
Here's one more picture from the bottom/front of our yard. Our property is on a slope. The bank behind the SFG area will be slowly turned into a huge herb garden, and I'm intending to build some sort of steps into the bank to access my herb garden. I planted a strawberry pot and will be putting...
OK, we finally have them in!!! What a cool project, and I couldn't be more pleased! I planned on tweaking the Mel's Mix, but actually followed it closer than I had intended. I found a large bag of vermiculite (finally), but I couldn't afford to buy tons of that stuff. We used mushroom soil, peat...
