This is my latest artsy project that I am working on. I just stared last week setting up still lives and photographing my chickens. I am working my way through the flock, and building "sets" specifically for individual chickens. I am just curious what you all think, and would love a good old...
I have been trying to hatch ducks in my incubator all spring, and am not having very good luck. I candle the eggs at about 2 weeks and everything seems to be going fine, and somewhere between 3 weeks and hatching, the ducklings die in the shell. Is there something I should be doing during this...
I am not have a very successful hatch rate with ducks in my incubator. I candle them and they all seem to be fertile and developing, but very few make it out of the shell.
I have a hen whose crop fills with muddy/blackish fluid so when I pick her up it comes running out.
She's also being weird. Sitting alone in the hen house, not coming out to be fed and just generally acting odd.
She's been like this for a few days now and the other hens don't seem to have been...
i just got a new rooster the other day and i think he's about three. his spurs are about a inch and a half long and i have heard people talk about twisting their spurs off. i was wondering if it hurts the roosters or if it is cruel. i just don't want him tearing my hens up.
i am currently raising 10 pheasant chicks and 10 chickens under a banty hen. so far everything is going well. they all sleep under her at night and i guess that they have figured out how to speak chicken language. the real test will be when i let them outside and see if they run off.
when i registered with byc, a password was assigned to me and i don't know how to choose my own. the one they gave me is some nonsense of caps and lc letters. i'm getting tired of carrying a piece of scrap paper around in my wallet with my password. the last time i used the computer at my...
the other day i was out collecting eggs and in one of the nestboxes was a little tiny egg. i usually find one of these miniature eggs once a year or so and i didn't know if it was a sign of anything or not.?
my incubator will be empty of chickens on mon and then i plan to fill with my stockpile of pheasant eggs and soon as it's freed up. my auto turner only holds 42 eggs and i would like to rig up some sort of turner that will allow me to pack more pheas eggs in. I know, i can turn them by...
i went on a quest for rp turkeys last summer and came up empty. this year i have got to make it happen. anyone recommend a hatchery for day old chicks or a place to get a half dozen eggs?
i have two bantams with pheasant eggs under them. i also have an incubator full of chicken eggs due to hatch the same day. i was planning on sticking some chicks from the incubator under the hens as they hatch in hopes that the bantams will raise the baby pheasants and that they might learn from...
this is my first time on this chatline and i think i'm gonna have a good time with it. over the years i have had several questions about my birds and no one to ask. it'll be nice to have so many experts to consult with if i have any problems or info to share. (i'm actually kinda new to this...
