Vent Gleet question...how to you get the cement off her bottom?

Its more on her skin. She lost some feathers on her underside a while back and chooses to make eggs instead of feathers.

Vent Gleet question...how to you get the cement off her bottom?

I have a poor white leghorn who has had a rough couple days. I think she was the subject of some vent pecking and since I have brought her inside has a nasty case of gleet. Last night I gave her a good long Epsom salt bath....20 something minutes....and did my best to clean her off but she still...

Frozen water nipples...problem solved but now chickens won't use bucket. What to do?

We had a couple of days where the nipples froze on our water bucket. We have since gotten a warmer and my husband checks every day and the nipples are no longer freezing but I swear the chickens aren't using the buckets anymore. Eating snow instead etc. What should I do? Thank you!

    Feather loss unexplainable

Thank you for your reply. Is it safe to say that if a chicken is acting like a happy healthy chicken....then they are happy and healthy?

    Feather loss unexplainable

Hey everyone. About a week ago when my girls wear out to play, one of my leghorns bent over and I noticed a patch of feathers missing between her legs. She still had fluffy under her vent tho. A few days later the same thing with my other leghorn. Now both my black crosses have the same loss and...

    ISA Brown Tail Feather question

Ha! No. Those are the browns. I have six total. Two isa browns, two white leghorns and two black sex links. What I was trying to say was each sex link is feathered like the other (colored different but feathered the same) and so are the white leghorns. But the feathers are different in the...

    ISA Brown Tail Feather question

Thank you so much! I'm a chicken newbie. I have two white legions and two black sex links as well. They physically look the same as each other although coloring might be a little different. That's why I was wondering!

    ISA Brown Tail Feather question

Hello! I have two isa brown chickens about 12 1/2 weeks old. One has beautiful tail feathers and the other not so much. Pictures of each below. Just want to be sure everything is okay. Eating and drinking and cheeping about just like the other girls. Her sister!

    New feather question

Thank you both! There's more and more coming through and the pins are more pronounced. Poor girls. They just don't look as graceful as the leghorns and black stars at growing feathers.

    New feather question

Hello! I am new to chickens and have questions about new feathers. Both of my ISA browns have really dark areas up near their neck. Is this just new feathers coming in?

    Chick Poop

So I have six new baby chicks roughly a week old. About three days ago I was doing a bottom check and one of the ladies had some poo on her behind. I have read and understand the dangers of the pasty butt so I cleaned her off. I proceeded to check the booties later that day a couple of times...

    Brooder Temp

Yeah. The more I read the more I'm worrying about it. I'm gonna move it up and get it stable around 95 or so. If they are cold tonight they can huddle up. I will pay attention to their activities tomorrow and see how they act. I figured out what you meant by covered sides....yes...they are in a...

    Brooder Temp

There have been all over the place most of today except for when they sack out to sleep. Plenty of eating and drinking and exploring going on. No one is hiding in the cool corner and its not a chick pile up in the center either but eveyone is under the soft glow of the lamp.

    Brooder Temp

No. How would I cover them...with a blanket or fleece? We have a little electric space heater I can set up near the brooder to get the ambient air temp up as well.

    Brooder Temp

I brought home my "phirst phlock" today....a six pack of chickens fromTSC. The temp guage in the brooder was reading around 95-96. When I put the babies in there they huddled together so I lowered the lamp a little. Now it reads 110 but they aren't huddled and have been running around. They are...

    Chickens!

Today my husband and I got our phirst phlock! (We have a running joke with "f's" spelled with "ph" since we started dating.) We bought two black stars, two white leghorns, and two ISA browns! We are super excited to have chickens!
