We typically do layers and broilers once a year. Our layers ar a combo of Whyandotts and the broilers are red Rangers. I would like a dual purpose bird replacing 5-10 layers a year
What is a good breed for this?
So last year we raised our first turkey a big breasted bronze. We got him in March, processed him in July/Aug and he came in at 33 pounds. In our opinion he grew too fast and we got him too soon
Fast forward to now, we bought 6 heritage turkeys in June. Not doing our due diligence we didn't...
We currently have 5 silver laced Wyandottes and would like to get more. We are not stuck on the silvers as other colors might be cool. We would like to get them as local to ohio as we can. Looking for spring deliveries.
We had 10 red rangers. We lost 2 to a fox and process all but the two hens. The hens are good layers, one egg a day, and very docile birds. The Roos at 12 weeks dressed out to 7 pounds and taste great. We had no leg issues other than one hen limps but seems ok as she is almost a year old.
Ducks in general suck. They are noisy and crap everywhere. High maintenance. Don't buy into the romance of ducks as In a few months you will loath them.
Well we lost a Rouen the other day to what we assume was a snapping turtle. Just disappeared. After owning ducks we realized they are fun to watch but what a pain to own. The are loud and crap everywhere. We will let these live out their days but these will be the last ducks we ever own. You...
We bought these as broilers but love the hens. We have 3 hens and 6 Roos. We plan to keep one roo and butcher the other 5. We also have 6 SLW hens which we dislike so they will become meat birds also.
Any idea what these guys are?
Hello!! Haven't posted lately as everything has kept us pretty busy. Ducks are doing very well. They are completely in their routine and other than our one girl being crazy noisy, they seem very happy. We now average about 3 eggs a day
Chickened are well but lost 2. Not sure where or how, they...
Finally some nice weather in ohio!!! 70 degrees days and sun, I thought this day would never come. So we put the girls on the pond in the morning and they stayed out On the water all day which made for some very happy ducks.
The nice part is they are starting to look so much better. Nice...
Btw. The barn was empty when we got it and white. We painted it, did all the stalls and added the fence and the landscaping areas. It's been a busy 3 years. Other than the concrete work we did it all ourselves.
