It took me 2 months to catch our raccoon predator. He got about 30-40 chickens (lost count). We tried all kinds of bait, from sardines, to Little Debbie Snack cakes. I have never been so frustrated in my life! My chickens were precious pets but no matter how we worked on the chicken house...
A neighbor of mine has caught 13 raccoons lately getting into his cattle corn. They are the smartest predator. He evaded my traps for 2 months but he will not be bothering my chickens or anyone elses from now on. I am still remaining on alert with traps set since there seems to be an...
And yes, the trap will remain set. Here is how we finally caught him. We left the hole he dig in the bottom of the chicken house and on the other side, placed a live trap. It was a very small live trap and we made sure it couldn't be moved (stakes, concrete blocks, etc.). When he entered the...
I am happy to reply that after 2 months, 30-40 dead chickens, and much money invested in traps, camera, and bait...the culprit was caught this morning...a huge racoon. It is a good Friday! He will not do anymore damage to me or anyone else. Enough said.
I would post a picture but have...
Good luck! I have been after one since the last of July. I now am about 30 chickens shorter. Everything I do to my chicken house (which is an old barn), he finds a way in. Last night I had 2 steel traps, 1 live trap, and a trap barrel. He got the bait but missed all the traps. They are so...
Well, I put a video camera in the barn and left it running. It wasn't long before the culprit appeared...a big fat raccoon! Unfortunately, my tape ran out before I saw all but I had 2 dead chickens the next morning and I saw him moving the live trap. We have reinforced the chicken coop again...
Well, so far we have killed a huge black snake that was eating the eggs and poison has killed a big possum. We will now just have to wait and see. At least we have not lost any chickens in several days now.
We have found 1 or 2 chickens dead each night. First it started on the ones that wouldn't go in the barn but roosted outside. It would take off the head but leave the body. Sometimes we would find the head and sometimes we wouldn't. Then, we made them all move inside and something still went...
We just killed a huge black snake who was stealing most of our eggs in the coop. We bought some very expensive snake away powder from Lowe's. It smelled like sulfur and moth balls. Apparently, it does not work but a 22 rifle did. That's my solution.
I have boxed out the address and re-posted. Thanks for all the suggestion and comments. I wish I could say that I had all that artistic ability but I can't lie. I have found out that you can take any picture and trace on just about anything with colored tracing paper and paint away. Don't be...
Well, I got tired to trying to buy a unique chicken mailbox and decided to make my own. Here are a couple of pictures. Hope you enjoy.
