My hen is about a year old and lays daily. Today I noticed she didn't want to come out of the coop to range so I went to check on her. Her vent is acting like she is trying to push b out. I don't feel any signs of a stick egg and no prolapse. I did notice she seemed short on feathers around her...
I just feel so bad for him/. I didnt think about the impaired vision, he does have a pretty full mop on his head :)
I will try seperating him with the weaker hens. I appreciate the suggestion, But they will have to all sleep together, we have only one coop.
on a side note, i was very proud...
no. i put him in the coop for the first day in a seperate cage. Then after the hens had roosted I put him up on the roost with them. They bullied him down and so i let him sleep on the floor (which he semed fine with because he didnt go to the open roost) The next day wasnt too terrible The kids...
I have a silkie roo and black sex link and golden comet hens. Anyone ever had chicks that were these breeds mixed? I am hoping to get some fun looking chickens!
I woiuld love to see some pics if anyone has any. I cannot seem to find any that are a mix online.
Okay. I have a problem. I got a new roo, a silkie. He is about the same size as our hens (golden comets and black sex link). We have five hens and they are great with us humans, however they are being very mean to the new roo. They are cornering him and pecking him while he cowers and cries. I...
Do sad cabinchicky. I hope someone on here can supply am idea of what may have been wrong.
shaybaby. It was five teens. Three boys. Two girls. And I assure you. If I had not had my small children with me I would have been much more likely to act. However, being from the city I know that people...
Went to the Lucasville swap and saw teenagers cockfighting. Had to explain this to my kids who also saw. Sad this behavior is socially acceptable in this area. I'm beginning to wonder if moving to this area is a mistake. I was disgusted.
Went to the Lucasville swap and witnessed teenagers cockfighting. Will NEVER go again. It was my first time and I was astonished that behavior like that was so socially accepted that they felt that they could do that in public. Sadly my children saw as well.
I don't like GMO's at all. Even got the kids drinking GMO free almond milk instead of cow milk.
As far as corn, I know for people corn is basically empty calories, so it should be considered an empty carb. (at least based on my nutrition class in college) So our family considers it a treat, even...
I never thought about that. We bought our six (I origionally wanted to start with four until I get the hang of caring for them) and I have two hens lined up to get form a friends daughter. I am unsure how merging the 8 will go as the two hens are fully grown, but I really want a variety of ages...
New to ohio, new to chickens.
I have six pullets (Still trying to reason this law saying minimum of 6 chickens). One looks different from the rest so I am hoping that we accidently got a roo. My hubby is adamant about no roos but I think that he would warm up to one.
I know a chick has to be...
We are here in Greenfield OH, which is southeastern Ohio. This winter has been unseasonably cold (as it has everywhere) but compared to a normal Wisconsin winter it was a breeze, so I am thinking future winters will be pleasant in comparison to what I am accustomed to.
My name is dawna. Totally new to chickens. We had some when I was just a tot in Oklahoma, that was my one and only experience. I now have moved from WI to OH and have the land to raise chickens. I have six chicks, three golden comets and three black pullets.
Everyone keeps asking why I want...
