My name is dawna. Totally new to chickens. We had some when I was just a tot in Oklahoma, that was my one and only experience. I now have moved from WI to OH and have the land to raise chickens. I have six chicks, three golden comets and three black pullets.
Everyone keeps asking why I want chickens so I will share. I have a daughter and seeing how quickly girls are becoming women I want to keep her (and my two boys) away from all the hormones in store bought food. Since making this decision I have switched the family to almond milk (GMO free) and have begun to buy as much organic/hormone free as possible. However, the cost of organic eggs is taxing (as we loooove our eggs). It is a step by step process but I plan to have our family nearly self sufficient for home grown veggies/fruit and eggs by the end of summer. And if the weather is cooperative I will have plenty of veggies for winter as well.
Thanks for reading and imparting such useful information!
