    Maran Male or female?

What do y’all think? Are these male or female? We’ve never had a roo and we can’t figure it out! They’re 12 weeks old.

Lethargic otherwise asymptomatic 3 month old pullet

Thank you so much for the suggestions! We'll try this and hope for the best!! We've been watching them pretty closely since integrating the flock and I don't think she's been kept from eating and drinking, but I did switch them over from a smaller feeder to a larger one a couple days ago- I...

Lethargic otherwise asymptomatic 3 month old pullet

We have an Easter Egger pullet who is just shy of 3 months old that is lethargic, not eating, nor drinking. The rest of the flock seems to be fine. She is sleepy- head down, tail down, standing. She is one of several pullets we've introduced to a lone older laying hen. They integrated well-...

    BriteTap nipple waterer

We check on our ladies daily anyways, so we just incorporated checking on the waterer into our daily rounds. Don't remember having any water freezing issues after applying the tape. but ours is in our coop, which is insulated. Made it through two week stent of negative weather without problem...

    Molting or Picking?

Our hens are just over a year old (15 months). We have an Easter Egger that has been getting picked on for a few months now, around her neck. Over the past few weeks, she has begun to lose significantly more feathers (but is maybe growing new shafts?). Wondering if she is molting, or getting...

    BriteTap nipple waterer

We have two. We leave the spout open on our 2 gal and drilled a small hole (Whatever size was indicated in the manual) in the top of our 5 gal (didn't have spout). Water stays cool all day (even in summer) and stays very clean. I would highly recommend venting due to the vacuum problem that...

Bald spot on head- Pecking, molting, or mites?

Thanks! It has been super cold and blustery here, so they have been hanging out in the coop more. Installed a hanging treat basket to help entertain them. Seems to be helping a little.

Bald spot on head- Pecking, molting, or mites?

Our barred rock has recently started acquiring some bald spots on her head. Opinions on what's happening? We don't have any roosters. Our ladies are approximately 9 months old. The spots do not have any open wounds, nor does her skin seem irritated at all. I have checked the best I could...

    BriteTap nipple waterer

We tested this method, and WOW! Have had negative temps (down to -11) and this thing works amazingly! Although, we do have ours in the coop so it stays warmer than outside temp. So glad I didn't have to haul water!

    BriteTap nipple waterer

Thank you so much for sharing this... We had concerns about this method- especially after having the nipples themselves freeze so quickly (they froze within minutes of putting it in the coop). You have certainly inspired us to try it now though!

    BriteTap nipple waterer

We finally decided we've experimented enough with the Brite Tap. Giving it up for the winter... We have had temps in the teens for two days now and the BriteTap nipples freeze within an hour of being out there. The water reservoir takes a lot longer to freeze, but there's just no solution...

    BriteTap nipple waterer

Our outdoor waterer froze for the first time last night... One in coop was fine. Our approach is going to be to remove the waterer from outside and keep the one in the coop. If/when that one freezes- my husband had the idea of boxing it in and putting a light bulb in the box over the clear box...

    BriteTap nipple waterer

We are in Colorado- and just this week, it has started to get cold at night. Utah probably gets a little colder I would think, than it does here. We are on the front range, so we rarely hit subzero, but it lingers in the single digits sometimes. This is our first year with chickens, so I...

    BriteTap nipple waterer

I just wanted to share my experience with this system, since I found very few reviews on it when I was researching it. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this system. We have 8 pullets and bought two BriteTaps- one 5 gallon cooler set up in their run and a 2 gallon set up in the coop. PROS: -INSULATED...
